So many of you have already seen these pics but I want feedback on the official channels! Votes! Critiques! What would you do different? If this were being judged for best army is it too much? Should I remove potentially less interesting models?

Anyhoo this is a culmination of a multi-year process to make my space marine army have a tile that they all fit on and in combat. I like seeing stuff in action poses. Its all been documented here.

and I have a separate review thread for the buildings that.. I really need to update someday. But this is for the final diorama.

For brevity/sanity closeups will be posted later in clusters of related photos. For now its just big picture.

Oh, hm, okay! I mean I can post the closeups but I'm not sure that will be less confusing haha!

It's the blurring of the photos. Obviously a lot of time went into this - but it's hard to see the cool details (like the genestealer with a hole in his head) due to the blurry photo.

Hm, interesting. I think thats my camera running out of resolution. Not sure how to fix that for the wide shots. But, closeup time!

You mentioned the holey genestealer so we'll start with the right side.

First of all, this diorama is very chaotic. This is not a bad thing and I think it would be amazing and rewarding to examine it carefully in person, it's just that it's a bit of a "barrier to entry" when staring at it on a computer screen, so it's a little tough to really appreciate it and give useful feedback this way.

Photos focussing on small sections at a time do help a great deal; for example that last shot of the flame looks fantastic. More of these please.

I'm loving the lights. It looks like there's a light inside the flame? That's fantastic. The are equally impressive!

One criticism is that while some models fit the scene perfectly (like the Tyranid climbing over the fence etc), some seem to have individual bases and have just been placed on top? This makes it feel less like a diorama and more like a small dense gaming board. Had these minis had specific recesses cut for their bases so they fit into the background a little better it would have felt more like a diorama/display board.

Anyway, overall an amazing piece of work!

Hm, yeah, okay i'll post some more closeups later today. There is a light inside the flame!

So this is meant to be for an army that can be used. Thus each SM in the army has a base which has been cut to match the ground underneath it. I prefer bases that sit on "top" of the ground instead of being cut "into" the ground because then you HAVE to have the models on the board for it to look right. Otherwise your board naked just has a lot of blank circles cut into it. The Scions are the easiest example. But yes, its a diorama for a working 40k army. The nids/terminators/dreadnought are all baked into the board.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some more shots of the right side along with the right back side as well!

Scions trying to snipe things: Their bases are actually cut from the same sprue as the containers. Turned out pretty well, its a technique idlove to do again if I ever had another scene with the containers.

The back is a bit sparer to provide more focus for the garage/mawloc outburst area:

I was trying to write "the lightning tendrils are equally impressive" but somehow it got deleted...

But yeah, I'm loving that psychic lightning!

That's fantastic! I love the shield and the glowing tendrils!

Do you have any WIP shots? I would very much like to know how you did the lightning as it's something I would like to try at some point!

The Tyranid's carapace looks great; is that an iridescent paint or did you paint it with different shades to look iridescent? Also, how did you get that effect on the shield? Are you using metallic blues for the Space Marine armour?

Haha yes! I have all my step by steps (both good and bad) in my painting/modelling blog

You'll want to start from the back for the shield/lightning attack bit, as that was my latest project.

Greetings Largo39, I was planning to do a Space Marines Versus Tyranids diorama. Yours looks great, it has a lot of wonderful elements to it.

The diorama I had planned was going to be a lot smaller scale with only maybe two or three squads with heavy flamers that gout flame against the bugs.

You did a wonderful job on this diorama. There is no need for Me to make one now because I am satisfied looking at what You have produced.
