Usually play 40k as daemons and have quite a large collection, however looking to try some AoS to dust off some of the old stuff from my fantasy collection. I'd either like to try my Death or Seraphon dudes (not looking to get in competetive games) but wondering if any of the stuff I've got can be made into something decent, willing to add another smaller purchase if needed to round out a list, but looking to keep these games small. Anyway this is what I've got:

What I've got in Seraphon:
Spoiler:
1 Stegadon (Could also be assembled as Engine of the gods)
1 unit of Skinks
1 unit of Saurus Warriors
1 Unit of Saurus Knights

What I've got in Death:
Spoiler:
1 unit of Crypt Ghouls
1 unit of grave guards
1 Vampire Lord on Nightmare Steed
1 Varghulf Courtier
1 Unit of Spirit Hosts
1 unit of Skeleton Warriors
1 Tomb Banshee
2 Vampire Lord's
1 Corpse Cart
1 Unit of Dire Wolves
1 Cairn Wraith

So what do you think? Could any of those be used to make a fun small game list? I'd be willing to pick up an extra box if needed to round things out, but would rather not get another huge start collecting box as my 40k stuff is already eating away all my free space!

yeah, looking at that you are more than good to go, I generally dont play points but looking at both your forces you have decent small games ahead of you with those.

Thanks! I've read through the rules but I failed to find anything on how to build lists? What are the limitations if you're not playing with points?

Do you each just pick a number of war scrolls? Is any war scroll more expensive than another? I see that in the point system the cost of one war scroll to the next varies greatly, but since AoS seems to be all about keeping it quick, simple and for fun I'd rather not get into points.

If you aren't going to use points then you eyeball it and go in knowing that balance will not exist. The more you play the better you get at that method.

Granted the points system in place now is also not largely balanced so ... you really only lose out on the structure of the points, not actual balance in many cases.

So there are no guidelines at all? I noticed many warscrolls says it can contain 10 or more units. Since both me and my opponent are new it seems very hard to get into!

there is no requirement other than have a leader and some stuff to play with, it takes some getting used to without the solid structure, but after a while (and especially if you play with the same folks alot) it gets much easier to decide what to bring. it really was with the intent for you to play with what you have and allow you to buy what you want without having to buy stuff you dont. all the warscroll is really saying is you can have as many as you want but at least 10 in that instance, though I believe you are still allowed 1 warscroll in your army that does not have the minimum models in it. one of my players literally just plays with the contents of "battlemasters" for a freeguild army, the other uses silver tower. think of it as taking a break and just going with the flow.

Dude, if you're just starting take a look at this http://www.louisvillewargaming.com/Files/PrimoVictoria.pdf. It is infinitely better than vanilla AoS and offers much more interesting gameplay. It still has some unclear wording here and there, but it is worth a shot. Too bad the facebook group I showed it to told me to get bent

Thanks for sharing that. Is it mainly for azyr comp or will ghb pts work ok?

It states it's for azyr comp. To tell you the truth I've always stated that I'm not interested in points at all so I can't say whether it will be "balanced" with GHB or not. There are many small details that may tip the scales. For example single characters out in the open become more difficult to hit by shooting attacks - maybe this should translate in some forms to the point costs, but I couldn't really tell as I'm not using any

I dont use them either, but passed it on to some buddies who do, so was curious, thanks though.

Had my first round against the GF's nurgle army and was surprised that the fight ended up being even until the last round where she kicked my scaly lizard butt. Fun stuff! Especially love the terrain rules and how much faster rounds are resolved.
