This week Games Workshop have announced a very special terrain set - Warscryer Citadel, which is familiar to old Fantasy Battles players as Skullvane Manse. The tendency to re-issue old terrain sets is great since there are not so many of them made especially for Age of Sigmar. So, we decided to check what other sets could be re-issued this way.

For example, Fortified Manor. Sure, like many other buildings of the Old World it doesn't match the AoS atmosphere. But anyway there could be such buildings somewhere in the Mortal Realms. And it's still nice for any other fantasy wargame.

The Watchtower. Is also on this list. But it can be easily re-built into something more matching the other terrain.

Temple of Sculls is one of the first candidates to be re-issued since it looks great with other AoS terrain and is also logical in the looming Death campaign.

And this set - Eternity Stair & Dreadfire Portal has already found a successor which looks more modern and is not likely to be released again.

Anyway, don't forget about the existing AoS terrain while making your battleboard - it looks great and has really special rules. For example - these statues can turn alive and eat enemy models nearby. However, they can also turn against yours if you are not lucky enough.

What other examples of old terrain that should be re-issued do you know? Share in the comments!

Honestly, terrain is the one area that I feel GW has done a terrible job on regarding AoS. I don't know what i'd like to see, I'll be honest, but nothing has made me say, "Wow, I'm buying that!" yet.

What ya mean? rules or model wise?

because honestly i really like most of the standard town buildings and the occasional goofball fantasy power building is nice. i think the older chaos shrine and the telescope is a bit silly with the massive skulls but the normal stuff is imho pretty nice. i think it would be pretty sick though if they did a modular set of town terrain.

also i would do anything for love but i wont click that (blog)

I suppose I am talking model wise. I like a lot of the old WFB terrain, but none of the newer stuff that has come out for AoS has wowed me. Releasing the older kits is fine, but you can only stretch that so far, especially in a setting that is supposed to be so different from the World That Was.

For me, I like the new stuff better. (bar the watchtower which is just a charming classic that fits anywhere)

Favorites are the realmgates and the dais which look like structures from a lost age you'd stumble upon while exploring lands long since abandoned by men while the archway, occulum and even the Arcanabulum give a otherworldly feel that fits so well.

I do hope they pump out more stuff for the realms like the Facebook had for the Silver Tower display. They had a huge diorama that showed the chambers in different areas that represented a realm each. Terrain and scenery for a specific realm would be ace along with a Stormkeep(to balance out the Dreadhold).

The AoS terrain has been kind of mixed IMO. I love the Dragonfate Dais and Baleful Realmgates, but the Ophidian Archway is kind of "meh". Mixed feelings about the Chaos Fortress stuff. It seems fairly overdesigned.

I really like most of the terrain for AoS and want to make a board including it but the price is way too high for something that's 80% decoration.

I feel you there AoS terrain is very....blah, also its HORRIBLE to assemble, the mold gaps on the thing are just the worst, you could fit a damn Cadillac between them.

To many unpainted models to count.

Oh goodness yes

Including the aquilla strong point set and wall of mayters (though the walls are one piece usually so eh) have god awful quality as it was one of the sets outsourced to china

having built both that and the giant chaos wall set. its not fun.

Also on a side note they are pretty bad to use or play on.

Flippin Spikes everywhere. i already impaled and broke a spike off in my hand :(

This is actually a chaos problem, real talk, my tzeentzch slaves to darkness have a little bit of blood for the blood god on them. People complain about stepping on legos? Let me tell you about stepping on a chaos knight my friend.

I did not realize they outsourced those models to china, would not be suprised now i dont feel so bad if i order them from china. Also to note, the aquilla strong point, and the chaos fortress are AWFUL to try and store as well, the spikes break all the time.

and as a side side note we found out that the hellfort works better as a 40k piece of terrain then it does a sigmar piece, since you can actually hide stuff behind it.

Pretty much why i removed the spikes off the aquilla set.

cant really do that for the chaos walls.

though it does have cool rules in aos.

at least its a korn wall.

I think the chapel was a really good kit. It was also one of the buildings in the aforementiond fortified manor.

I'm really excited about the Telescope House terrain. It was one of my favorite pieces of WHFB terrain, and I'm definitely going to buy one this go-around.

I think GWS makes really terrific terrain in general, but I tend to like the WHFB stuff a touch more. Doing the Garden of Morr set currently and loving it.

Dont worry to much, plastic glue is almost useless on terrain items because its made of hard plastic and it was probably superglued with cheap stuff.

@backspacehacker That's weird, I'm sure I always glue my Citadel terrain with plastic glue.

I always struggle getting Citadel plastic glue to work with terrain. I have to use Zap-a-Gap (which is generally my go-to anyway).

Thats because most of it is low quality chinese plastic... (The Citadel Terrain)

And I agree with what others have said. Design wise I love GW terrain. The prices... well some are more reasonable than others. But when they out source it to china... that sucks. I expect to receive GW plastic when I pay GW prices. To receive China plastic I'll go to buy from china recasters for china recasters prices.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

There was no issue the store manager at the time was pretty nice and he saw it was an accident.

I had Skullvane Manse when it was first released.

Dodgy batch of plakky glue ruined it.

Guess I'm buying a replacement!

Yeah our store manager does not give a gak because it breaks ALL the time.

On the price point of GW stuff, to be honest the best way to do it, is buy it once, then kit bash it all with pink foam to make buildins and make your own ruins with cheaper models. Pegasus minitures makes amazing stuff for dirt cheap as well, wombo comboing that with GW bits and you got your self a great imperial city. For xeno stuff, nothing better then just scratch building it all.

Their things look good after a quick look. I'd definitely use those for Fantasy terrain.

It's all super modular too, it's just wall sections you build.

I have found most of the gw terrain to be poorly made (way too many gaps to fill in) so generally avoid it like the plague. I used to love their trees, but this new forest thing I dont care for. I was really interested in the opidian archway for use in Confrontation, but too much sigmar junk on it.
