Right now I am sipping an ice-cold Negroni -- 1:1:1 Gin (Tanqueray Export) / Campari / Martini Rosso vermouth. I know it's an aperitif, but I enjoy one after dinner -- sue me.

Challenge my cocktail choice with your preferred relaxation mix!

Generally my go-to is a classic martini. I like a twist of lemon, but am more likely to have a jar of olives in the house. Either one works. Hendricks is my gin of choice, but I’ll vary what I keep around. Recently finished off a bottle of Beefeater, and have a Botanist waiting. Whisper of Martini&Rossi extra dry vermouth regardless of gin used.

I’ve been drinking more bourbon lately. Last bottle was Basil-Hayden, next one is Old Grandad. Which is basically the same thing, just not diluted from barrel strength as much so it’s bottled in bond. What I have on hand here changes a lot, as half the time when my dad comes to visit, he buys me a bottle of whatever he’s currently drinking.

Lastly I enjoy a Dark and Stormy. Which is basically a rum and coke, but with ginger beer. My rum of choice for this is Kraken black spiced rum, which is what I keep in the house.

For whatever reason I’ve had a hankering for a cosmopolitan lately, so might pick up the stuff to make them. They are girly AF, but quite tasty. Cranberry/vodka, with a splash of some orange liquor and lime juice. Although a friend of mine recently had one made with bitters she said was amazing.

I tasted a good Martini in a posh hotel last summer.

1 ounce Lillet
1 1/2 ounce vodka of your choice
1 ounce of gin, again, your choice
Half a lime's juice

Shake it, serve on ice. I think he called it a Vesper, or Vespa Martini.

IIRC that’s the original James Bond drink.

Not a big cocktail drinker. But I do have the recipe for the last cocktail I drank. Real simple. Jack and Coke. Here is what you need.

Jackx1
Cokex1

Mix to taste. If you are really good at it, you don't even need a glass, mix it straight in to your mouth. (Close relative passed away, so it was mostly Jack)

I tend to default to the Harvey Wallbanger when i'm not drinking whisky or whiskey

3 parts Vodka & 6 parts fresh orange juice, mix over ice and float on 1 part Galliano

and occasionally I drop in 1 part of Peter Heering cherry liqueur as well with the vodka & orange

I have to admit that long cocktails are a good standby, in warmer weather or if you just want a drink that won't blow your head off.

I keep stocks of tonic water, soda water, ginger ale and ginger beer in 150ml can size for this purpose.

I do like a Gin Martini too -- I am sipping one right now -- but it has to be ice cold and that's tricky to achieve if you don't have a freezer in which to keep your gin.

Depending how you feel about “bruising” your gin, a shaker and ice cubes can get the job done. But I agree, the colder the better.

Grey Goose Martini, show it the bottle of Vermouth, shake it like it's a bad baby and throw in 3 freshly stuffed Bleu Cheese Olives. Then there's just a couple fingers of Elijah Craig small batch, neat...I'll be right back.

Probably work

I'm down for the vodka martini usually, but I prefer a potato vodka, Blue Ice if I'm feeling cheap (which is a $13 bottle that tastes like a $30 bottle) or Chopin potato if I'm feeling extravagant. In a pinch I'll settle for Grey Goose or Tito's (though Tito's is a little sweet for a martini). Gets about a 3:1 ratio of vodka to Martini & Rossi's Extra Dry, and a splash of olive brine. Gently shaken, and then garnished with either garlic olives or bleu cheese, depending on what I've been able to get my hands on.

Never met anyone else that really liked them, but I can drink a dangerous number of those.

I haven't been able to stomach gin much since I was in college. It and Goldschlager are two things I've hurt myself on so bad that I couldn't stand to even look at them anymore.

Strangely, both Pimm's Cups and Long Island Iced Tea are still quite refreshing in the summertime, despite the gin.

I generally prefer a good dram, but if it's cocktail time, give me a Long Island or a Caipirissima, please.
The latter is a caipirinha with rum instead of Cachaça.

I do shake a lot of my cocktails, partly because I like them almost fizzing with aeration.

But keeping your gin in the freezer is what really counts. When it pours from the bottle like oil rather than water, that's when you know you're going to get a good martini.
