Hey guys and girls!

Firstly, sorry for the mega first post, I should probably have started this blog a month ago so there's quite a lot going on. Anyway, this is a safe space for my mind dump so i'll do what I like!

For the last month or so i've been playing in a Necromunda campaign with 3 others at the Yogscast. We've been streaming Live on Twitch at 5pm GMT on Wednesdays.
https://www.youtube.com/redirect?redir_token=ghIlMOb3_x87t7ppVm1bby297Od8MTUxNzY5MzI3NEAxNTE3NjA2ODc0&event=video_description&v=b7cHJuXCaHo&q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.twitch.tv%2Fyogscast

For those of you that are into that sort of thing i've provided some linkies below to edited versions on Youtube, you can also catch the archived full length footage on Twitch. If you'd rather look at toys the old fashioned way i'm going to update this blog with some still photos.
I've built some fresh terrain and mostly painted two gangs so far.

Here's a link to a Google doc with the leaderboard and rosters etc.

Anyhow, on to some quick pics of Lewis' Goliath gang-The Baby Oil Boys that I did for him.
Stay tuned for some more pics of the other gangs, terrain and anything else as I get round to taking them.

Thanks for looking watching and feel free to leave a comment, criticism, question or whatever you like. Cheers.

Haha love that they are pink. The opposing gang would be like wtf is that. And after the Baby Oil Boys give em a good stomping they are like wtf just happened. The name is great as well. Good stuff.

Loving the stream so far, can't wait for the next battle. You made all of the terrain, right? Think you could put some pictures up of the buildings? I'm thinking of getting into Necromunda and I might try making something similar to what you guys have.

I'm afraid that I can't take credit for the name or the choice of the pink scheme. That has all come from the beautiful mind of Lewis Brindley. Glad you like.

Dawnfire wrote:Loving the stream so far, can't wait for the next battle. You made all of the terrain, right? Think you could put some pictures up of the buildings?

Sure can, here we go!

Okay boys and girls, as requested here are some pictures of the terrain in progress.
I honestly can't remember where I got these MDF shells from but they were cheap, quick to put together and solid. I think I bought 20 or so 2 storey buildings for about £40.
There is a fair bit of variation in the windows/doors and how they go together, they also, once assembled, can be easily cut down to make single storey buildings, the toxic sludge pits and can also be stacked to make taller buildings.

Firstly, i'd like to preemptively respond to a question that has been asked a few times in the Youtube comments section and is bound to be asked here.
Why don't you have walkways, taller buildings etc?
The answer, I do.......

There are three reasons we're not using this for the moment:
The first is that for filming this really doesn't work very well. We had done some test shoots of this stuff and it's just all too easy for models to be obscured by the buildings and underneath platforms. I have watched a few Necromunda battle reports and the majority use a handycam to solve this issue. The problem is getting this footage to look half decent without making people seasick whilst live on Twitch. It's nearly impossible so we opted for fixed cameras and a handycam that we sometimes use for close ups, a dice cam or explaining action that gets hidden.

Secondly, we are playing overhand. I'm tall and can easily reach to the other side of a 4ft table, the other guys playing could manage it too with a bit of a stretch. The second that we add tall buildings it's impossible to move models from the other side of the board without getting arms in the way, moving buildings or shifting around between the board and camera to make our moves. Our new terrain solves that and also a lot of the issues of line of sight that occur on a really crowded table.

Thirdly is our donation system. For those that don't know Twitch is a live games broadcasting website. Next to the show is a chat bar and also there is a way to donate to have your messages sent to us if you want a specific question answered live. We use this donation system for that but as an incentive, and for a bit of fun, people who donate can ask for some graffiti to be painted onto the terrain. If you look at the above pics you'll see that there is actually very little flat vertical space to do this. I'll grab some pics of how that's going when i'm next back in the studio. Thanks so much for all of the contributions so far, it really helps.

So what did we come up with?

Tiered boxes!!! I didn't really invent the wheel on this one, model railway makers, aquascapers, window dressers, wedding photographers have done it for years.
Anyway it works, big ones at the back, short ones at the front. Simple.

and because it's Necromunda, SLUDGE.

And pipes to move the sludge around.....

And after a couple of days I had built and painted this little lot.

I already had a load of scatter terrain built up but i'll grab some pics of some of that too when I get a chance.
If anyone is interested I may do a mini tutorial on how these were built, detailed and painted as i've still got a few more feature buildings to build for later in the campaign.

Anyway I hope you like it all and feel free to chuck any thoughts, C+C, praise, marriage proposals or questions my way.
Thanks for looking.

Just a quick update.
Did a bit of painting this afternoon and finished off the Renderiser Goliath.
Might go through and do some gore and blood spatter on that and the Leader's hammer at some point.

Cheers.

I'd definitely be interested in that mini tutorial. 20 buildings for £40? That's a serious bargain if you ask me. Too bad you don't remember where they came from.

Hello and greetings from a fellow Commonwealth country, Canada!

Fantastic paint job mate! I can see how the Baby Oil Boys can recognize each other in the heat of battle in the depths of the underhive ...

I have a bunch of Necromunda metals myself who are currently in the service of the Imperium, entrusted to lead a Steel Legion Planetary Defense Force.

Curious where did you find the stick grenades?

I wish I could find them again too. There are plenty of other MDF manufacturers but these were so cheap and generic that they're just great as a starting point for most genres.
I honestly couldn't build a foamcore or MDF box from scratch for cheaper, not to mention the time saved.
I'll do a bit of a tutorial/step by step pics when I get round to doing the next few buildings.

Private Benjamin wrote:Curious where did you find the stick grenades?

They come on the new Goliath sprue although they're pretty easy to make and there are a few other GW sprues that contain them, mainly Orks iirc.
Kromlech do Greatcoat grenade arms which could work well with an imperial guard army.

Time for another cheeky update.
I've taken a few quick snaps of my Escher gang, The Atomic Snowglobes.

I'm not 100% happy with these just yet, they were a bit of a rushed job, there's a lot more detail to pick out and some serious work to do on the skin.
They are however table ready at this point so bad lighting and poor pictures away!!!!!

Anyway, how you like 'em.

Is the "MAD" made out of paperclips or something? That's a pretty smart way to make it look like those tubes on neon signs, never would have thought of that.

Yup, that sound way better than a bad spraycan zenithal highlight in bad weather with a slightly clogged nozzle. I think they're salvageable still.

Big photodump time. Here are a load of pics of the graffiti donations so far. Sorry for not formatting them properly as that would take an age so i'm just gonna chuck them up.

Fantastic stuff! The scenery is excellent - I especially like the '2 headz' graffiti by Tom, and the *ahem* gentlemen's special relief hole , which I assume he also did?

You guys honestly do my favorite 40k youtube videos - I binge 'em and paint on Sunday evenings.
Is there any chance you could post pics of Ben and Tom's gangs as well? I'm quite fond of Ben's dudes, but Tom's are truly a marvel to behold!

It's nice to be seen too, better yet to receive complimentary messages.
I'm glad that you are enjoying the videos, with time i'm sure we can get them better although there are a few limitations with filming live then cutting up the footage into something suitable for YouTube.
Luckily Konrad Von VonVolkvan (Tom's Flamer) is missing tomorrow night's game verses me so hopefully I won't have to work about that too much.......

RandyMcStab wrote: Needs more dicks though (shame on you).

What doesn't!!!!
I feel like i've missed a trick there, there is still time.

kestral wrote: I feel you need more layers of graffitti myself.

Thankyou, Yes, we certainly do. So far I think we've only done 3 graffiti donation sessions and have covered a good chunk of the terrain. As soon as we run out of space then things will get interesting!

posermcbogus wrote:You guys honestly do my favorite 40k youtube videos

Aww, schucks. Without giving too much away we do have plans for some 40k within the office but it's taking a while for everybody to get up to speed and in the same room. Necromunda seemed like a good stop gap and i'm glad you're enjoying it.
Tom and Ben's gang pics are coming. I have some good pics of Tom's on my computer ready to go when I get a chance, i'll catch up with Ben's Burnanators too. I realized that my earlier pics of the 'Baby Oil Boys' and the 'Atomic Snowglobes' are just plain bad so a photo-re-shoot at the studio will be happening probably tomorrow. Pics will follow.

Cheers everyone for the kind words and encouragement. It helps loads!

I really enjoy the streams and hope you make the most of that missing flameboy later.

The terrain looks rather good, wasn't too sure about the graffiti initially when Lewis started it but it's come along nicely and I might have to nab the idea when I get around to sorting out my own Necromunda scenery! I think it was Tom that mentioned getting some posters done up then shrunk down and printed out to to add some extra detail but did anything come of that?

The posters thing is still ongoing. If anyone would like to upload some here they are more than welcome. We were possibly going to get Harry Yogs to do some for us but no-one has specified anything yet.
