Legendary move by Netflix to drop a sequel to a beloved film 4 hours after the first trailer. That's some guts there.

Spoiler:
I am tired of the resource wars backdrop.

Overall, I liked Bright more.

Reaction to Paradox has been divisive. It would have done poorly at the box office. The dialogue is of the so bad it's good variety and some choices are outright bizarre. It's not extremely connected to Cloverfield outside of the ending scene and the
Spoiler:
idea that activating the Shepard brought something over into the first universe.

6.5/10

I'd have to go a 5/10 at best. I was never bored but this movie was a mess. You could clearly see this was a different movie that had the Cloverfield tie-in stuff sloppily merged with it later.

Some of it just made no sense.

Spoiler:
I think a room full of water explosively exposed to space wold vent into space, not flash freeze in place (as haunting as the tableau is). A room full of water I think would turn into a projected blast of snow\ice cloud.

Why did the David Oyelowo character sacrifice himself when they could have disconnected the ring remotely? Why did any of them even go to look at it?

Why did the printer on space statiion have plans for a gun available? Can't claim he got them from the internet since there were no comms when he did it.

Spoiler:
I think they're in a dimension where John Goodman lent his friend his survival shelter, as in 10 Cloverfield Lane.

So this was pretty much just an attempt to tie everything in a multiverse, right? Space ship crew uses super technology and breaks space time causing rips and monster in various times/dimensions.

I think this movie gets an award for most blatant Chekhov's gun.

I still think the Cloverfield Pardox is... having a giant monster movie that only features the monster for thirty seconds at most.

Just finished it. Was quite the mess, ended up disappointed, but there were flashes of a good movie in there at times. It just seemed like it didn’t know what it wanted to be.

The actors seemed to give it their all, at least.

Instead of watching this, watch the movie “Life” and pretend that is the Cloverfield prequel.

there was a very long thread on Dakka 2 universes over...

its a diverting watch but smacks of trying a smidge too hard to be clever and just comes out muddled, I think an 8 or so episode mini-seris might have served the premise better

The movie definitely got more cast than it deserved. I think the only thing that kept it as a "meh" instead of utterly terrible is Gugu Mbatha-Raw's performance.

Would depend on how much air was in the room with the water. Water itself doesn’t compress/decompress.

Saw it yesterday. Kind of agree with all previous. Honestkly thought it was absolutely ridiculous. But I quite enjoyed it regardless. And I have sat through far worse movies ...

Anyway, Zhang Ziyi is all the justification I need!

Heh, that's exactly what I thought at the end of Life. I wonder how big this thing gets and if it drops smaller ones....

all the weird stuff that happened never had any explanations.

Way better cast than dialoguue..definitely stuck somewhere between event horizon, life and that sandra bullock space movie...but not in a good way.

Having now seen this movie I can tell you the reason there wasn't a thread is because it's crap

I can practically see the room where they story boarded this thing cause it's a literal series of "generic horror movie tension scenes" followed by "bad gak happens to someone" except the former is really bad and the later is just so convenient at every turn that it boggles the mind. It's a shame too cause they had a great premise; our space station in space is quantum entangled to a space station sinking into the sea. There's potential there, like great potential but literally only one of the character deaths/creep disasters that happens over the course of the film actually plays to that. Everything else is just a parade of really random plot convenient contrivances and then the big reveal at the end just felt insulting.

Weirdly only showing as available to buy on I-tunes, but I haven’t bought a movie in about a decade. Certain I rented it and enjoyed it. Not the best sci-fi movie, but not the worst either.

Watched CP. Despite the good actors, wowsa.

What jerks is that this has parts that looked like it could have been a good movie with a better (read more coherent etc.) script. Instead it turned into an ode to bad sci fi horror movies and tropes.

I can't find it to stream. It's a $14 rental on Amazon. Itunes, and Youtube. I would not recommend doing that at all. You can get the disc used for $5+shipping, and even that is a reach TBH. I'd try Redbox.

Still a better movie than The Cloverfield Paradox, though!

$1.50 at Redbox, should also be On Demand for a number of services. Not a terrible movie, but I kept wishing Reynolds was Deadpool instead. I fear I shall now hope for that in every movie he is in....
