whilst this head swapping technology has been used for predictably sordid ends its clearly a step towards the all Shatner version of The Sound of Music

So what disturbing, non-mucky, ends would my fellow Dakka put to recasting films or telly

I'm going to need a bit more of what you're after here - especially in terms of a thread title.

Please feel free to update it via the first post edit sot that it makes more sense.

Thanks!

Or, to be more polite, deepfakes digitally replacesomebody's face in a moving image, which means of course the first thing done was a bunch of sweaty students putting their favorite starlet's head into a porn vid.

What it means though is it is now somewhat feasible to digitally replace an actor with another actor in a movie.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

If I were a billionaire, I'd hire all the right folk to make a movie and fully fund its production, including getting the most ridiculously, inappropriately famous actors cast in the main roles, and then digitally replace all their faces with total nobody unknown and/or hack actors, purely to enjoy the ego-fuelled gak fits the "big names" would throw.

This was exactly my first thought, hopefully we'll get to the point where you can also alter their voices to the correct pitch, accent, etc. then we can have finally have a version of a Few Good Men where Nic Cage takes Nic Cage to court and then screams at himself whilst an audience of Nic Cages look on...

However, this new technology has also made me interested in whether this can affect the legal system: altered CCTV being submitted as evidence is the first that comes to mind, especially if the image is from one of the more grainy cameras and/or the technology improves to become more sophisticated. Just a thought.

@ Alpharius, apologies for the vague title, was on of those late night daft idea's that probably meant its time for bed

I like the Cage idea's, personally I'm thinking all movies could be improved with everyone being Brian Blessed

Sounds like a great movie premise, but why in the world would anyone do this in real life? First of all, the resources required would make it prohibitive, second, it would likely involve multiple people, so the risk of reveal is high. Photos can be altered now, and that isn't a problem. Even "digital enhancement" is not generally allowed unless it is clearly outlined as such ahead of time and a clear reason is produced why the altered item should be allowed as evidence (such as legitimate restoration).

Also, from what I've read about this, it requires hundreds of photos of the face you want to fake in order for the software to work.

So, if you have hundreds of face pics of someone you want to try and frame with doctored CCTV footage and somehow arrange it so they don't have an alibi for the thing you are framing them for and can argue as to why there are no forensics etc. then I suppose you could use it to frame someone.

Right now, yes, but as this technology advances in it's sophistication it may require fewer and fewer images to apply the face tracking and require little to no input from the person concocting the frame.

Photos can be altered now and there is concerns among some legal groups that manipulated images can still make it through to evidence in a court of law, and in any case; if the image alteration is done to such a high standard that it is entered into evidence then you wouldn't even know that image alteration is a problem.

See above.

Many people don't have much of an alibi for crimes (especially those committed during the night) other than "I was at home" or "I was with a friend", both of which are flimsy in the face of photo evidence.
and can argue as to why there are no forensics etc.

Forensic evidence may be a problem if the frame was put together after the murder, but if the frame was premeditated then it wouldn't be too hard to add incriminating evidence to the scene of the crime i.e. use an item owned by that person as the weapon of choice.

Oh man that would make so much weirder and hilarious! I dunno....that might open up a vortex through space time with so much Nic Cage asking Nic Cage incredibly Nic Cage questions.
