My FLGS had a single unloved copy of the last Firestorm Armada Starter set (Return of the Overseers), so I bought it. I do want to look at the rules and perhaps run through a game solo to get a feel for the rules and what does and doesn't work. However, I'm not sure what to do with the minis in the box. I'm kinda meh about the ships; I like the Directorate Frigates, but everything else looks very similar, like upscaled versions of the previous ships (though I do collect SFB so my hypocrisy knows no bounds). However, they would make nice models to test out paint schemes on. What do you think, should I build and paint the ships, or, after trying the game, shelve the whole thing and sell it when it becomes a collectors item?

Shelve it and wait for the reboot. My memory is hazy, but I think it was bought by Warcradle alongside Dystopian Wars.

The two weren't in a package deal (again, if my memory is correct), so that means they specifically bought the IP to do something with it.

Considering the molds and ships are unlikely to change, FSA will come back in some form.

Right now Warcradle is in the middle of rebooting Dystopian Wars and Wild West Exodus into one setting with new rules, so I wouldn't be surprised to see FSA get a reboot with their new rules.

Did anyone buy Halo Fleet Battles? Things for that game are pretty steep on eBay, and I don't want to get any if someone else is going to re-release it in the near future.

That would be correct. Dystopian Wars/WWE has been mentioned as being released in August(ish) of this year, with minimal work on the Firestorm franchise till that comes out. If they follow a similar time frame, we'd be lucky to see any Firestorm released by February 2019, and more likely on towards May 2019.

There is a lot of speculation going on about how the new Firestorm games will work (or should work in most cases) at the Warcradle community forums (they copied all the Spartan Forum posts over, and it has been interestingly active from old Spartan hats). There are Warcradle staff looking in on the posts, and even commenting on some of them, giving an indication of a willingness to listen.

Nope, Microsoft specifically made them unable to transfer the license for anything Halo and supposedly destroy the molds. What's out there is what's out there, but be careful because there's some recasters posting stuff. Obviously more of a problem for Ground Combat where it was resin to begin with, any plastic spaceships out there are going to be authentic

Well, I just bought a combo package UNSC Starter fleet, Commander busts, and Commander stats. I'm tempted to paint the ships and put them on a display shelf, but the whole thing is still shrink-wrapped, so I may save it to sell in 30 years.

I'd guess they will show up at GenCon this year, then Armada will debut at GC in 2019.
