Anyone know the decibels of a sound marines weapon? I know if they go past 1000, there is so much energy that would create a black hole so, just wondering. Not that it matters but still fun to know.

I think they do precisely 2.3 warp units of noise. Given that 1 warp unit convert to 1.3 warp unit that means that… well I guess that trying to give a scientific analysis of noise marine weapons don't really work, it's more space magic stuff ^^.

All of them. Disaster Area level of noise.

It's such a romantic song about a boy meeting a girl under the light of a silvery moon that then explodes for no adequately explored reason.

If there was a dial for 1-10... It would be set on 11,12, boost mode, 58 and 2196859689689 bassoverload.

If they had a infinity dial they would use it lol

You're talking way higher than what we have been exposed to now, Considering that at 150 decibels you are exceeding the pain threshold and causing permanent hearing damage, we're talking about weapons that cause internal rupturing of organs (IIRC) and the loudest noise ever experienced was the Saturn rocket at 194 decibels, you are possibly talking even higher than that.

One distinction that is I think relevant in sound physics is the fact that it's not only the amplitude of the sound wave that is damaging (how "loud" a sound is depends on the pressure diffential between the high and low pressure elements of the wave...) but potentially the speed at which the wave travels. If a sound wave travels faster than sound it becomes a shockwave, and becomes more damaging accordingly.

So one could argue that if you want to liquefy internal organs with air vibration, go shockwave....

After 190 decibels, sound waves are essentially shockwaves (like an explosion). If you keep ramping up the more damage you do.

Obviously there are radiant sound waves that can be heard normally that won't kill you (for instance if you were pointing the device away from yourself, or you were out of range of damage)
but in the cone of damage the shock waves have enough energy to shatter stone, liquefy flesh, and more.

All of them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

The problem with trying to estimate a decibel level is that a 'sonic weapon' that did damage via the pressure wave would diminish in effect dramatically over range (assuming normal physics are in effect to some degree), while a sonic blaster remains effective out to the range of a boltgun, which may be absurdly short in the context of trying to assume a scale for the miniatures game but is fairly significant in the lore.

I might infer from this that the primary danger of a Noise Marine's sonic blaster isn't the sound pressure, it's the psychic/Warp-charged effect of hearing the information communicated via the sound pressure, therefore attaching a decibel level to it is sort of meaningless (consider that the noise of fingernails on a chalkboard as a sort of real-world equivalent; it's an incredibly unpleasant noise because it's hitting the resonant frequency of your ear, not because it's particularly loud in terms of raw sound pressure. The sonic blaster is hitting the resonant frequency of your brain, for lack of a better analogy, and is going to make your head explode regardless of how loudly it's played.)

A bit late but surly you could compare a sonic blaster
to a full power blast from a naval sonar

Should have enough power to rip apart tissue in a handheld package

Well, since the last attempt to measure it led to the sensor becoming possessed by Daemons and biting the techie’s arm off, I guess we’ll never know.
