This unit seems very strong, but am I reading this correctly, BS 3+ with heavy weapons and no apparent relentless? Is this 188 point badass actually only hitting on 4's? If so has that been a deterrent for anyone wanting to use them?

P.S. I get that with the Heavenfall Blade they are beastly in combat, especially against other flyers, but my goodness 4+ to hit with an HQ just seems wrong.

Keep him near sammael and you won't notice much difference. I've used him and he rips stuff apart even while moving. Keep in mind its volume of shots makes up for BS 4. Plus ignore cover AND reroll wounds of 1.

Yes. The key is to bring Sammael. They naturally fit together plus they also make everything else so much better. Together they are amazing bash bros with really potent shooting. Honestly, since the books release I've been super impressed with the Ravenwing as a reliable component of my army now.

My most recent list is comprised of Sammael, Talon Master, 3 scout units (with ML), two dark talons, dark shroud, one fairly large unit of bikes, 3 devestator units with plasma cannons and a Librarian on a bike (from codex). Essentially that's the core. It's been pretty darn solid. Basically You setup your back field of scouts and devs and let them cap objectives and pepper away while you move all the RW stuff as a block together to bring devastation to a flank. It's particularly effective against infantry based lists but can deal with both. Dark Talons are so amazing this edition. Really good unit.

Plus they are charecters, you don't have to move them if you dont want to. But yeah, my current ravenwing setup that I am building revolves around Sammael and two talon masters. The amount of firepower they have + the protection they offer, they are a great fire base.

Thanks for all the info, they do seem great.

I've been running him next to Azrael for rerolls and yeah, he's a beast. He would certainly be better next to Sammael, but I would start to feel like a bad person at that point.

In both battles I have had against a RWTM, he has been a beast. That 4+ is only if he moves, which he doesn't even need to do all the time. He is hard to hit due to being a character, and that is really awesome. It takes a lot to take him down. And he is still pretty cheap.

In a world of IG insanity tanks, and a zillion demon princes, you shouldn't feel bad to play your good stuff
