Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Looking at the slowly increasing piles of 40k 8th ed books I started to wonder whether other people are in a similar predicament as me,

I play with all sorts of different chaos models which unfortunately means I need all of their rules. This means that when I go to play a 3k pts game on Sunday I'll have to bring:
The Big Rule Book - obviously
Chapter Approved - we play with the most up to date rules
Chaos Space Marine Codex - the majority of my army
Imperial Armour Index Forces of Chaos - Brass Scorpions are fun
Index Chaos - why do I love the biker Sorcerer so much and why didn't GW have their rules updated in the codex!
Codex Daemons - I do love me some Khorney Daemons
Codex Death Guard - Yes, I'm that guy who just takes Mortimer
Codex Thousand Sons - Same problem as above
Phone with FAQs - to be honest I should probably just print out the FAQs and stick them in the books

Luckily I'm not fielding my R&H otherwise I'd have to take an Astra Militarium Codex and Index Imperial Armour Forces of the Astra Militarium too!
I can imagine Imperial soup is something similar.

So how is everyone else's 8th ed rule book collection coming along?

I bring the BRB and battlescribe.

I sometimes bring a codex if a new player needs it or if I don't have cards made up for the strategems.

I own Codex DA, SM, Tyranids. I own Index Imeperium 2, but it's just a paperweight now that the salamander command tank got so pricey

I make things pretty easy. Sort of.

I spent some money and got a binder. That binder contains photocopies of the datasheets for the units I'll be using at the game. It takes a little time, but it's easier than flipping through a book to find the entry for the specific units I use.

I keep the books in my truck. If someone questions the validity of my datasheets, I will gladly let them confirm in my book that it is authentic.

Mob Rule is not a rule.

As a filthy casual, I bring the following:

1) My codex for the army I'm playing.
2) My double-sided quick reference sheets I've produced (complete with errata, chapter approved cost updates, rules updates, etc.)
3) I have the BRB on my phone if genuine rules questions come up.

So...one.

However, we also tend to play our own devised scenarios, so I don't have any real need of the BRB for missions - I'd probably eventually pick up a copy just to have one handy.

When GW announced how they were going to do index/codex/errata/chapter approved, I immediately knew I'd be making a quick reference sheet to keep all the stuff up to date. I have two laminated sheets; they include all the unit rules for the units I own, all the weapon stats, all the spells, stratagems, chapter traits, special rules (Daemonic summoning, etc.) for the models I own. I have sheets for my Eldar and sheets for my Chaos Space Marines.

It's by far the easiest solution to the continually evolving stuff. I keep the codex on hand in case someone doesn't believe my printed sheet, which is fine.

Most configurations I run are two books (Custodes + Imperium 2, Marines + FW Marines, AdMech + FW Guard for the Acheron), and I usually use my FLGS' reference copies of the rulebook and Chapter Approved rather than carrying around my own.

Technically depending on how you count a "book" my Corsairs could be zero, because I had to write the Codex myself.

Vigo. Spain.

1, my Dark Angels Codex. I don't use Index's units and the Dark Angel FAQ is so minimal that I don't even need to use it.

The stores/clubs have already Rulebooks and CA's if we want to use some missions of those.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I pretty much only consistently use one physical book anymore - the BRB.

I've got codices and CA on my phone. But recently, with GW's datacards and my own handmade unit profile cards, I don't even look at my phone often.

My current army technically requires:

Codex Chaos Space Marines, Demons, and Thousand Sons + CA and the BRB. That that I'm an iPad guy, so I'm just bringing that to all of my games.

Big Rule Book
Index Imperium II
Chapter Approved

I could hypothetically use as many a 5 in a game:
BRB
Imperium II
Imperium I
Imperial Guard
Chapter Approved

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I keep it to the BRB and the codex for whatever army I'm using. I don't do FW or soup so it cuts down on my needs. Only exception was in 7th using Chaos and Daemons.

And if I'm playing soup: Codex: Allied Detachment (sometimes x2)
Rarely: Index: Old Stuff

7 for me. Serves me right for running an imperial soup army at tournaments I suppose.

1) Big rule book
2) Chapter approved
3) Guard codex - around 60% of my 2K list
4) Forge world index astra militarum - for my converted elysians
5) Blood angels codex - for a few scout squads
6) Index imperium 2 - for celestine and an inquisitor
7) Index imperium 1 - for cyberwolves to fill out a brigade (I usually use rough riders but the tournament format has weird composite list building restrictions...)

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

BrB and photocopied data sheets, plus whatever rules you need for your army. My codexs are gonna stay on my shelf unless I need em for a tournament. Most of my armies are built to be one list so the actual data sheets I need are pretty minimal.

For legacy index units I’ll just print out the page I need. I’m not lugging a book around for 2-3 pages. I should really go full binder so I can just grab the pages I need for the army I’m putting on the table, to reduce flipping around. But that’s a bit of work.

I don't buy hard copy anymore.

I might print my codex cards, and I think the Weapon tables for other armies at some point, for my opponents reference int he case of the codex cards, and for mine with the weapon tables.
