Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I don't mind painting big models, I don't mind painting characters, I don't even mind painting small units but what I really do not have the patience for is painting large units of chaff infantry; it takes an age to get them up to a good standard and there's no motivation to paint them well either since they'll be on the board for all of 5 seconds before they get torn to pieces by small arms fire.

So I thought about turning to commission painting to paint about 30 cultists so I can run a battalion but the pricing I'm finding is £5-10 per model! That's £150-£300 for 3 units of cultists painted to tabletop standard! Am I calculating this wrong or is this really the going rate for TTS commission? And if it is, can't you get discounts for multiples of the same model?

It depends on your idea of tabletop quality and colour scheme, but for a base/wash/highlight in the colours shown on GW I'd personally be charging £5-7 per model for cultists.

Gotta bear in mind the time all adds up - prime them all, block in colours, wash, paint, seal. Across 30 models.

My advertised price for standard infantry models are retail x 1.5, but I'd wouldn't touch this commission with a 10 ft. pole. As for some reason GW sells chaos cultists at 5 for $10, I would be painting them for $15 per 5 man at high TT quality. I did that for a 30 man commission a while back and it was exhausting, but the guy also had a lot of other stuff commissioned by me, so it was kind of a discount.

If I were to take on the commission, I would have to charge them at price for models similar, such as 1k sons Tzaangors, which is at $45 retail per 10 man, so $67.50 per 10 man. What you have found is probably fair or slightly expensive for what you want.

My price for a cultist would be 5$ per model, so all 30 of them would be 150$. I'm not based in the UK though, so it would be a little bit more that that when you count in shipping. I very much dobut you'll be able to find anything cheaper that that, eastern european price of labour and all. I guess you could get a better deal from a friend that's doing you a favour. I would also accept magic cards of some models as an alternative form of payment. Hope this helps.

I know you're not asking for speed painting advice, but if you don't find a service and price you're willing to go for it's pretty fast to paint models like cultists by priming them white and using only inks and washes for the color.

10 pounds per model seems way too much, imo. As others said. I mean, if I was to ask that much for a cultist, nobody would accept. Here it’s like 5 euros per batch painted model to a good standard. 10-15 for a single character.
