Are any of those warscroll battalions for Slaves to Darkness any good? I see three with points values in the GHB2017. I didn’t wanna buy them if they suck. I have a manticore lord, 30 marauders, 30 warriors, and a Sorcerer lord on mount for slaves to darkness right now.

Imo, if you wanna run slaves you need to either run Calvary army, or you need to run them with another faction.

The awesome thing about slaves is they can go any where because maurders and warriors are battle line for chaos, they synergy great with any of the 4 chaos God's. For example I run a tzeench army that uses 40 warriors, a shrine, an sorcerer lord on manticore, then I mix in tzeench daemons and archinite hero's.

They alao work great for nurgal. Warriors make some of the best tar pit units in the game.

The StD battalions all kinda suck, they simply cost to many points.

As Ninth said, StD battalions are overcosted, but the best is probably the Godsworn Champions of Ruin. Never underestimate the ability to get an extra pile in and attack.

Thanks for the input! I have discovered that a huge block of Warriors really gums up the battlefield, usually for the whole game. I sent them across the table a couple times with Sayl the Faithless after buffing them with the Manticore Lord and Sorcerer Lord and they did pretty well, until the one game with a Vamp Lord, Neferata, and a Mourngul

I haven't tried them with a Nurgle or Khorne or Tzeentch force yet, but it definitely sounds like they would greatly benefit from any of those. I've played against Tzeentch a bunch of times. Those Destiny Dice are handy! Once I get my beasts of Nurgle painted I'll give Nurgle a try with them....even though my Slaves to Darkness army is Malal-themed in color scheme.

Honestly if you are looking for good battalions for Slaves the mono-god ones from the Everchosen book are great. Actually they are downright OP for that matter (aside from the Slaanesh one), though using just Slaves they wouldn't be as bad.

If you happen to have Archaon lying around, try running him and a blob of Warriors in a Tzeentch army. Have Archaon cast Treacherous Bond on the Warriors, and he basically has 80 wounds that require 3 different layers of saves to get through. It's kind of hilarious, really. Note that you shouldn't do this if you plan on having any friends.

I think in my next 2k point game I’ll give that a try.

The Fatesworn Warband is actually really good to combine with Slaves to Darkness. You can take it with either Tzeentch or StD as your faction now that GHB '17 allows for allies. You only need 1 hero and 9 units with the mark of Tzeench and it makes all your weapons in the battalion rend -1. Pretty good to combo with warriors with shields or double hand weapons, chaos knights with ensorcelled weapons, and marauders.

In both cases the bonus artifact you can take is pretty meaningful. For tzeentch faction especially.

If you do this I strongly recommended the gaunt summoner on foot (with familiars if you have it). He can cast two spells, counts as a mortal, daemon, and arcanites, and his built in spell is very powerful.

I should have picked a unit of knights I saw at Adepticon last night. Still, I think spawn can help me round out my Fatesworn group.

I haven't gotten a Gaunt Summoner yet. That's the only sorcerer I think Chaos has that is worth riding a Balewind Vortex.

Yeah he's amazing. Relatedly if you take a tzeentch army don't forget the gaunt summoner is eligible to get one Lore of Fate AND one Lore of Change spell since he's a daemon and a mortal.

More importantly pop his ass up on a vortex. If you have a LoC as your commander, and you out the gaunt summoner on a bale wind you can get a +4 to his casting.

Not to mention the gaunt summoner has one of if not the most powerful spells in the game. You can delete horde armies.

I think it's only a +3 to the Gaunt with that: one from the LoC General, one from his familiars, one from the Balewind. Am I missing the 4th?

A Gaunt Summoner with a Vortex is an auto-included 220pts in ANY list that can take Tzeentch.

Time to work him into a Khorne Bloodbound army as a hilarious F.U. ally!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
