I am a returning player, have not played since second edition. Here is what i got.

Battalion Detachment

HQ

Librarian
Callidus Assassin

Troops

Razorback 2 heavy bolters
5 man tac squad with missle launcher

Razorback 2 heavy bolters

Razorback 2 heavy bolters

Razorback 2 heavy bolters
5 man tac squad with missle launcher

Razorback 2 heavy bolters
5 man tac squad with missle launcher

Razorback 2 heavy bolters
5 man tac squad with missle launcher

Razorback with 2 assault cannons

Heavy support

9 man devistator squad with four missle launchers

9 man devastator squad with four missle launchers

9 man devistator squad with four missle launchers

The idea is to use all three comand points and infiltrate the devistators into some good terain all around the board and let them shoot. Then just play the mission with the tac squads, HQ's, and the extra razorback.

if you have the bits, you'd be well served to put only assault cannons on the RBs.

I'm not a big fan of missile launchers, but they're not *terrible* - I think you should drop some MLs for Lascannons. You've already got a bunch of anti-infantry on the RBs (especially if you swap for ACs) so missile launchers are really just a crappy lascannon.

Froth at the top, dregs at the bottom, but the middle - excellent

That is what I am wrestling with. I don't like auto cannons because of the 24 inch range and 4 heavy bolters is similar to 2 auto cannons. It ups my points which is less models on the table. Was thinking of las cannons but how much am I really loosing with one less strength and one less ap. At this point I am thinking volume of dice but like I have said I have not played in a long time.

Not sure assassins are HQ choices anymore and if you set up like this you wont be able to use chapter tactics.

I an also a Raven guard player and I like to utilized the Raven guard strategem "Strike from the shadows". I bring a full 6 man squad of Primaris Agressors with boltstorm gauntlets and deploy them on the board using the strategem. Agressors get an avearage of 100 shots per rd of shooting from them. Buffing them with a captain or Lt. Really increases damage potential.

Another thing to look into is a biker captain. I use a biker captain with thunder hammer and shield eternal relic giving him a 3+inv and halving all damage he takes. I then give home iron resolve warlord trait giving him +1w and 6+feel no pain. Buffing with the librarian and might of heros+ veil of time makes him super nasty. Plus if he is 12" away from enemy Raven guard units are -1 to hit.

Hellblasters are another great unit to use strike from the shadows on. They will melt heavy infantry and can smoke light vehicles with their plasma. Plus they can double tap at 15 with their plasma.

Needless to say I love my Raven guard and I have had massive success with them here in my area. We don't follow the typical North American meta.

In your thread, trolling.

You'll have to drop the Callidus Assassin or make an Inquisition Vanguard Detachment. (It's not worth it.)

Right on, if I drop the assassin then I would probably just opt for a Captain. Still have some points to play with. Does any of you think the librarian is worth it? The Captain seems to have some decent buffs but what has been your experience. Or is there another way I can avoid the HQ tax for the Battalion Detachment?

Thanks for the heads up. I will check out your suggestions later on tonight (when the kids go to bed)
