I have an incredibly large backlog of models, some of which have been waiting well over a decade to be painted. With that in mind I have resolved myself to average one painted mini every day (minimum) for 2018. Hopefully if I keep this up I can have a couple armies 100% complete by New Year's.

Anyone else find themselves this far behind?

Not quite, but close enough. I have around 60 unpainted boyz, morkanaut, 4 mek guns, 10 grots, 3 deffkoptas, and a pile of bits and toys that will become a stompa eventually. Hopefully it'll take a little less than a year.

Orkz is never beaten in battle. If we win, we win. If we did, we did fighting so it don't count. If we legz it, we just come back for annuver go, see?

Not far off. Almost everything I have has been partly painted - it's just finishing off I find tedious as you have to achieve a standard you are happy with. Ideally I would paint everything I own before allowing myself to buy any more models, but in practice...

I have almost 20000 of stuff, and 95%+ of that is unpainted. That's because I've always focussed on my main army and only painted orks, but still loved drukhari and SW and wanted to collect and play them. A few months ago I decided to strip the majority of the models I painted because my standards are way better now. I've just kept less than 1000 points of painted stuff So, yeah I think I can be way more far behind, lol.

365 is a very aggressive pace, more power to you if you can do it. My goal is one a week. The key is to find what works for you and try to keep it up. Motivation is a very subjective thing.

Good luck. Even with a lot of time and patience I've managed only 230 or so in a year. Curious to see if you get this done!

I came up with an idea for a Ferrari F1 - themed Evil Sunz warband back in 2015... put the list together, planned out the conversions... it's only now finally seeing some paint. It's only 1000pts too!

I have a couple squads of plague marines, some blightshroud and deathshroud terminators, a blight hauler, two chaos spawn and 60 poxwalkers to paint. Finding time between work and family to get back to painting has been tough lately.

40k: Space Marines (Rift Wardens) - 8050pts.
T9A: Vampire Covenants 2060pts.

Yeah. I started writing down things that would be lovely to get done by the end of the day. Man, it feels so great when I can cross out at least one of the lines for each day

More partly painted or damaged and in need of repair, barring the 30 something mmelta devastators and throne alone knows how many guardsmen still on the sprue.

What might be a fun idea is to start a quarterly painting club among us perrenially backlogged folks, see if it helps to be accountable. 'Unpainted Models Anonymous' as it were

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

I've got loads of models to build and paint. I think this is a very cool idea. I doubt I'd be able to do 365, but thinking about it so far I'm not doing bad if aim for average 5 dudes or a character each week. I've finished all my Warhammer Quest characters, and the 10 Acolytes, 10 Genestealers, the Vedros/Black Reach Captain and a Terminator assault squad since Xmas. I'm consciously tying to finish off a couple of squads before starting anything new, and am halfway through my Court Of The Archon, so get to start a new squad soon. Next up I want to get more WHQ dudes done, so either the Blightkings or Khorne guys.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

I've got a backlog, but not that severe. I probably have 50-75 infantry and 5-7 vehicles unpainted, but to my credit I do have 20,000+ points fully painted and ready to go. Anybody fancy a game of Apocalypse?

Most I've got is several Necron boxes in storage out of state. Outside that all the Marines I bought are done so far. I'm pretty good about completing kits once I bought them.

My plan was just to paint something every day, even if it's only for 20 minutes. Sometimes I have a whole platoon out and they take a month or I have a few characters and get them done in a week. The other night I pulled out my entire army and did a single coat of agrellan earth (which for over 200 infantry takes about 4 hours )

The key is that it always helps you feel like you're chipping away. Yesterday all I did was paint hazard stripes on 3 tanks. But that was 3 tanks worth of hazard stripes I didn't have the day before, so it made me feel a bit better. Tonight I'll probably start doing pin washes and edge details, and then tomorrow will be drybrishing or decals.

It is definately a worthy goal. I know ive been trying to get at least an hour of painting each night before bed, which for me equates to a single infantry model completely painted.
Only got mabe 30 or so infantry to go now. It feels good to see your painted pile slowly grow especially wjen those model have been needing to be painted for over a decade.

I know though that my progress will slow once i have to start painting my transports and vehicles on account of just hating to paint those kinds of models.

Good luck with that. Keep it up.

Are you aiming to really have 1 new model painted each day or that at the end of the 365 days you plan to have at least 365 models painted?

If former you aren't really taking advantage of factory paining style so if your models are uniformed(say 40k armies where models within unit don't generally have unique colour schemes) so you actually are going to SLOW DOWN your painting speed compared to say "I'll paint at least 2 hours per day". IMO rather than 1 model per day I would go for bit bigger groups like "one new unit or 3 tanks per week" or so.

Another problem with these sort of things is if you are trying to force yourself to paint to meet requirements it can lead to burn out and make it unfun which just slows down more.

But good luck either way!

My pile of models - some of which are unprimed RT-era lead minis *I* bought back in the day, is slowly getting done.

I started in earnest last year. I finally got my entire Tau army - down to the last drone - finished painted about a week ago. Then promptly added a devilfish and 3 crisis suits to the pile (I at least got the Devilfish done last night, working on the Crisis suits).

I'm about 90% done with my Imperial Guard (remaining - Heavy Weapons teams, a Catchecan team I'm waffling what do with and a handful of RT guard I recently stumbled on in an old box).

I'm about 90% with my Space Marines as well (2 RT-era squads to do, 50 3rd-party Assault marines, A set of Centurions, two 5-man Scout squads and a handful of characters). This was primarily my 2017 project - covering well over 300 marines.

For my Necrons, I just need to finish my Tomb Blades, and would like to rebase my minis.

For my Adeptus Mechanicus, I need to finish my Dragoon/Walker and Ruststalkers. At some point, I'd like to pick up some Cataphrons.

On my Tyranids, I have a Tervigon on my desk to finish and do some modeling (got it off e-bay, it is missing the emerging termagaunt) and then magnetize arms for my Carnifexes and Warriors.

I also just acquired a Mantic Forge Father army - they've been assembled but will need to be painted.

My youngest son's entire Ork horde needs painting (some models are unprimed).

I'm helping my elder son with his Chaos Army. Got a half-dozen character models I'd promised I'd help with and will probably help him with his horde of cultists - just so they're painted, I doubt he'll field them.

Last to do is my Eldar - I want to have my painting skills to the highest level before I tackle finishing them. I did paint up a Fire Prism tonight, and it turned out very well.

With all of that said, I'd encourage you to paint as much as you can, as often as you can. It's easy to burn out - for me painting once a week four about 4-5 hours that night was my goal. If I got in the mood, I'd paint an extra night or two. Conversely, because of my odd work hours there would be times I had to miss a paint night - or simply had to do something else.

The biggest thing is not to give up. If you miss a night of painting (or two), don't stop - and don't try to catch back up. Just pick the brush back up as soon as you can and move on.

I would like to paint up a DKoK Sturmsoldaten (I don't speak German so if I called your mother a goat by accident, apologies) army, problem is grenadiers have gone awol from FW.

Probably redoing the mold.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

My goal is slowly coming along. Today is day 55 of the year, and I have 53 models painted. I needed to play catch-up, as I only started painting about 3 weeks ago. My biggest problem is that I am a ridiculously slow painter, like 1.5 hours per primaris marine. And that's with a sort-of simple paint scheme.

When I start painting my Custodes I think I will be using some kind of dip method to make things faster.
