If I've got an Inquisitor who grants Imperial units within 6" his Ld, does the Catachan regimental doctrine add a +1 to affected infantry squads whose officers are nearby, or is the regimental doctrine not active because the roll is based on the Inquistor's Ld and not the squad's?

As per the rulebook, you change base values, then add modifiers. So it's base ld becomes nine because of the Inquisitor, and then you add one from the doctrine for 10. [And then one for the standard for 11, and laugh.]

This isn't correct. If you use an Inquistor's Ld then he is not Catachan so cannot benefit from the Officer's +1.

So you can either use the Catachan unit's Ld with a +1, OR use the Inquisitor's Ld. In this situation the two cannot stack due to lack of compatible keywords, it's an either/or.

There is nothing that prevents a Catachan unit from gaining both benefits. They have both of the required keywords.

I thought I was clear.

I am a squad of ten guardsmen within 6 inches of an officer, [We are both <Catachan>] and an Inquisitor.

My basic squad leadership is changed to 9 via the Inquisitor. I then add +1, for Brutal Strength, making my Ld now 10. I then move a Regimental Standard within 6. My leadership is now 11.

The Inquisitors leadership remains forever 9, none of these benefits affect him at all.

You can either use the inquistors leadership instead of not as yours so no modification of the value so your either 9 from the inquisitor or 9 from the 7+1+1. No modification after substitutions.

That's not what the rulebook says. It's says subsitution _before_ modification.

But instead of is different from substitution, this maybe intentionally to prevent what your getting at, or maybe your right and its GW writers being GW writers. Also GW have already stated that the order in the rulebook doesn't apply universally.

The Inquisitor cannot get modifiers from Catachan buffs.
So if a Catachan unit uses his Leadership *instead of their own*, they use his Leadership as is.
If they use their own they get the Catachan Officer bonus.
You can't have both, as I understand it. If you're using the Inquisitor's Ld then buffs to your own Ld are irrelevant, and the Inquisitor cannot use those buffs.

There's nothing in the Modifiers sidebar about substituting btw, because it's a swap, not a modifier.

On the otherhand, if the Inquisitor is your Warlord and has Inspiring Presence (from the BRB), he buffs his own leadership by +1 (because he's in 6" of himself) making units Ld 11 for being within 6".
