GW promised codices for everyone this edition, so how many armies still need a book and do you think GW can/will deliver and if so in what order?

Imperium:

Xenos:
Dark Eldar

I am gonna have to express extreme saltiness if only TSons and DG are the only two of the Big Four to get proper codices. First off it would totally invalidate any goodwill generated by GW as of late in the eyes of probably all Chaos players, and secondly well, feth there is no secondly. It would just flat out suck.

I mean, didn't Geedubs say they weren't gonna leave anyone without a book? Or are they just gonna punk out on some lines and leave them to rot in the index?

I don't doubt World Chompers and Emp's Children are going to get codex (if rumours persist EC end of this year, WE end of next), but out of the current established factions they don't count as those that still need a codex, because then we can say stuff like Squats and Fishmen still need their codex as well.

You know what that is very true. WE and EC would actually be new codices that flesh out an existing faction. I will still get really nerdmad if 9th rolls around and my Zerkers still don't have a codex.

But that brings me to another point. GW states that the plan is to get everyone a book, then they pretty much release two new army books and like three or four new model lines with books to boot. I'm looking at Custodes and thinking really? These guys protect the Golden Throne, why are they now free to zip around on jetbikes while the most talked about line in terms of who people want updated sits on a shelf in Nottingham waiting for the rich lawyers and doctors amoung us to develop a nuns with guns fetish?

In lore terms, because Guilliman told them to. He saw this extremely elite force sitting around twiddling their thumbs while the galaxy burned and decided to put them to better use.

It's a LITTTLE more complicated that then. The Custodes current captain general is one of the most activist Captain generals the custodes have had in AGES he's been doing as much as he can, but the AC's hands are tied by old an ancient laws from the post heresy Gulliman reformations. So Valorious WANTED to get out, but changing the rules wasn't exactly each, with Gulliman's return they where able to tweek the rules to allow the Custodes to adopt a "the best defence is a good offense" position.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I love how Guilliman just wakes up and starts making playable factions.

Hey Bobby! How about you go kick the Sisters in the arse and tell em to lighten up! Har har, cuz they're metal...

But seriously, I would rather see all the current factions get a codex before we go creating new armies and splitting books up into mini factions ala DG &. TSons.

DG, TSons, WE, and EP are not mini-factions. I agree they should stop making new armies, though.

How are Legions not mini factions of CSM?

We never had them split up like that before, and you know I really have to express concern over the idea we are even going to get the other two Legions this edition or maybe even ever.

Look in the BrB and tell me where the EC and WE fluff pages are. How many pictures of Noise Marines or Berzerker do you see?

As far as those called out in CA as getting a codex, we still have 10:

Adepta Sororitas
Dark Eldar*
Deathwatch
Genestealer Cults
Harlequins
Imperial Knights
Necrons*
Orks
Space Wolves
Tau*

*officially announced

We can expect Emperor's Children and World Eaters to get a codex at some point, too.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Because they are distinctly different from the other Chaos legions due to the fact that they follow so closely to the religion of their chosen god. The way a Death Guard army plays is going to be completely different from how I play as a World Eaters player. A Thousand Sons player, additionally, will be playing a very different kind of army as well. The big four legions are very clearly distinct and if any of the Chaos legions deserve full codex releases it is them. The remaining four legions could use more fleshing out in a Chapter Approved release with more unique stratagems and expanded rules since they don't have unique units like the four main gods do.

Your other points don't even make sense. "We never had it before so why would we now?" Wrath of Magnus and Khorne Daemonkin. "The BrB doesn't have pictures or fluff of them." This isn't an argument.

Hey I'm not arguing against getting legion codices! I already have a DG army and am waiting to rebuild my Khorne Zerker army so you don't have to tell me about Legions.

I am just saying, ya know GW said they'd do a certain thing and now we have three new armies that either never existed before or had been part of a larger faction. My other argument doesn't make sense? I'm saying WE and EC are completely missing from the BrB, the only two Legions mentioned are the two we got codices for. And forgive me but since when does the BrB totally forgo talking about two of the four Legions? Only two Legions mentioned, only two Legions got books. Do you see my concern?

If GW release sub faction codexes before a main faction codexes the screeching nerd rage will cause an eye of terror to form, and rightly so.

I mean, I love that this Big Four roundup is happening, I really am. I love chaos! But... The Big Four are all subfactions of Chaos. And here we have two more books for Chaos and there are still main factions waiting for books.

Like, it's worked out in my favour thus far since I happen to play one of the new subfactions but... That nerd rage is a buildin!

Well it's a simple enough job to see if you think the nerd rage is justified. Imagine it the other way around, suppose an Ork Kult of Speed sub faction codex was released before the CSM codex. Does that make you feel Khorny?

I mean chaos is a big money maker for GW in the same way imperial armies are. Orks need a lot of updates (in terms of models) that we will hopefully see, durkhari and ynnari will hopefully coincide and have some fun releases, and gsc are sort of super fringe at the moment. Sisters will hopefully see some model updates with their codex, but honestly i doubt it. Imperial agents will get pushed back as long as possible i think, as they are missing several important models as of now, notably daemonhosts.

It's all chill until those Salamanders show up.

Unless sisters is confirmed i doubt they get plastic models or a book anytime soon, they are just a part of imperial soup lists anyway

As someone with a chaos army, I'd be dissappointed but at the same time, I'd be fine with it, I LOVE seeing new armies in 40k

I suspect we will get an Inquisition/Agents of the Imperium book as well, but that's JMO.

Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

For some reason I have a feeling Genestealer Cults will be the last in line along with Deathwatch.

I really hope to see World Eaters and Emperor's Children get their own codex just like Death Guard and Thousand Sons but I might be asking for too much.

I heard (from somewhere not reputable, mind!) that there's a campaign book coming out at the end of June (the real question is "is the end of the month during the month?" ). I'm not sure what that might be, but there you have it.

As far as I know, Forge World hasn't put out any Imperial Armour books yet, aside from the Index books they produced last summer. It's difficult to say with FW whether we should expect to see any new books at all, but if they make one or more IA books, we could be looking at codex equivalent lists for Elysians, Krieg, Renegades and 40k rules for FW's Mechanicum range.

I hope we see the Index army lists for Elysians and Death Korps revised to be in line with Codex: Astra Militarum (mostly by making their special rules Regimental abilities and startagems), and likewise add rules for the Red Scorpions and Minotaurs. I'd like updated rules for the Astral Claws, but then again, they might not want to do "historical" forces.

I'll probably just do my own version of Elysian rules. One Doctrine, one Warlord Trait, one Stratagem and one Order should do it.

They already have Regiment rules (cult of sacrifice and aerial drop), and regiment orders. All they'd need are relics (oops, the Momento Mori, I guess at least DKOK have a relic), ... so I guess stratagems. One stratagem each, just like every other regiment has.
