What is the status of BFG? Is it still dead to Games Workshop, Forge World & other licensees? Or is it getting support from another quarter?

Most of the Specialist Games are still dead. Blood Bowl and Necromunda are back. Adeptus Titanicus is expected to come back, no clear ETA. A BFG like game set in the Horus Heresy is rumoured.

Gorka Morka is also dead. But both Mordheim and BFG have been 'alive' digitally the last years, BFG is getting a sequal even.

I think BFG may be resurrected considering the success of the video games and similar competing war games like that x-wing star wars game

I've fought in this endless hateful war for eight months now, night and day. In that time I've aged a decade. My hair has turned grey, nearly all my squad have died, and I doubt I'll ever smile again. I've fought next to heroes and strangled men in their sleep. But I'm still alive and by the Emperor I plan to stay that way. - Acting-Captain Haines,47th Armageddon Steel Legion

I would drop everything I was working on for BFG if it came back.

as a tabletop game is pretty dead.
there are some 3rd party shops that make a few look-a-like models but not many.
digitaly it is doing better. you can find them on steam, and they imo did a nice job trying to get the tabletop feel into a digial game.

noone knows yet if BFG will be resurrected, but maybe one day in the distant future.

The scene is pretty much alive, you need to look for it though. It has no official backing but a lot of Imperial stuff have proxies. Eldar, Tyranid and Ork fleets can be converted.

I know there's an active community in France who do regular tournaments and such.

There are still some online communities going (like the Specialist Games one, http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php, I think there was a FB group as well last time I checked).

I had a play a few years back and although it is still a well made game, I think of all of the discontinued games has probably aged the least well. Specifically the firing tables when looking up dice numbers to roll are quite ponderous. I also seem to remember you can end up with games lasting for hours, as a few crippled ships slowing circle each other.

That being said there are a few companies doing proxy miniatures. Vanguard Miniatures has got a very nice selection of imperial ships now for instance (which are modelled after the lovely old GW Space Fleet miniatures).

And given the success of the video games and other old specialist games, I would be very surprised if GW didn't re-visit it with a new box release at some point again in the future.
