Good day,
I am an old WFB player from back in I think 5th edition maybe 6th. I stopped playing for personal reasons. Nothing to do with GW.
I recently wanted to get back into the game and someone told me about the world reset ect. I was good with that. I like the look of the new models.

Then I read the rules. Am I misreading something or is it really the case that the base of the model now is no longer part of the model. In other words the base does not effect formations, movement, facing etc.
I am asking here because I really want to figure out what books I need to buy to better understand what I am getting into.

Thanks,
Ravensworth

As the rules state bases do no matter. You measure from model to model. My group generally ignores this and goes for base to base unless its a big model like a monster.

If your group does do the model to model measureing keep in mind for movement no one part of the model can move past its max movement. So if you have a guy with with spear held pointy bit out you need to keep that part within your max movement. This includes turning the model before and durring movement. So move forward 3" and turned 3" for a max of a 6" move for that model.

This also can cause certian models unable to attack unless trhey are up ontop of terrain. If I remember correctly Grots cannot get in range of Ripperdactlys or Terradons normally.

As for books. You need, at a minimal, the Generals Handbook. Alliance/Faction books can give more access to specail rules such as Magic, Relics, and Battalions.

Bases are generally ignored per the rules however pretty much everyone I've heard speak still uses base to base measuring because it's way easier.

Technically they are indeed ignored, but GW showed us a complete lack of competency in rules creation so AoS is far better when just house ruling their messups like that.

How does this apply with customized models?

You would still measure model to model. Just be aware when customizing if you are changing the size or area of a model that it will play slightly different in game.

My club just considers the base as part of the model.
