The title says it.
I suggest having a blanket -1 to hit first turn(even in combat) and possibly an additional -1 to hit for units in cover.
This would help the damage output of units to drastically decrease turn 1, and hopefully make the alpha strike survivable.

This would make my army even stronger than it already is.

So, i'll give two opinions:

Selfish me: Sounds like a good idea!
Objective me: Sounds like it would be unfair.

Alpha strike is a part of the game. A better solution would be a 2/3 rule for board versus reserves, rather than half, and just adjust the cost appropriately of guns with a range greater than 36", or ignore line of sight.

I'd like the rules for night fighting you find for Battle Zones in the BRB, but random. On the first player turn, on a 3up night fighting is in force, if not it won't apply at all. On the successive player turn, on 4up it continue, next player turn on 5up an d so on till authomathic end the turn after 6up.

In this way you are not sure taking first turn will be an advantage.

The only "fair" answer continues to be: more terrain.

If you add a blanket -1 to hit, imagine the armies which have a -1 to hit trait. It'd make going second still SUCK tremendously.

You could, perhaps count all units on the first turn as moving, whether they move or not (this would also encourage moving) because they're assumed to be arriving on the battlefield, but again this would really super-mega-hinder certain armies.

I don't mind this kind of thing as a random effect or part of a particular scenario, but as a blanket soluton; negative Ghostrider.

I don't think night fighting is necessary. So I am trying to find the statistics but in the last couple tournaments the person who went second had a higher win percentage. This completely surprised me because my warhammer group was also having the issue of whoever went first basically won. But this statistic caused me to take a step back and look at all our lists and it turns out all of them were very Alpha strike heavy. The lists you see winning in tournaments are giant hordes that move to take all the objectives last turn (so it makes sense they would want to go second). Also deep striking hive tyrants that are safe from the Alpha.

This is the 4th or 5th thread suggesting this.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Alternative solution: Keep the 50/50 restriction on reserves, but also add that only 50% (rounding up) of your reserves can arrive turn 1.
So you have 50% deployed, 25% that can come in turn 1 and the other 25% can come in after that.

The downside is that you could wait to do a Beta strike by waiting 'til turn 2 to drop all your reserves. But considering how risky that might be, it shouldn't be much of a downside.
