What’s more, Kill Team will be released alongside a new war zone’s worth of modular battlefield terrain designed by the same team who brought you the Sector Mechanicus kits.

If you watch the video carefully each "killzone"(urban, industrial, jungle, wasteland) has a flat mat or tile to go with it.

Interesting. Looks like the pieces have a lot more thickness to them than the current ruins. The paper-thin walls are a really big negative for me on the current terrain, and this looks like it's moving in the direction of the old OOP FW city ruins (which I have and love).

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

This looks great. Too bad there doesn't seem to be an option to build it with LoS blocking ground floor, so it does very little in 40K.

If the new cathedral kit comes with enough intact walls, I may just build a drop keep for my Knights this year.

I have to say this is a disappointing move. The market is awash with decent "gothic city" style stuff. Everyone makes it. I was hoping they'd actually do something unique/different. I say that as someone who's just finished a huge gothic building from TT combat.

We "have" gotch city stuff. Give us something new (or for ball's sake an actual Xenos set of terrain would not go amiss...)

Build it up on a couple inch tiered platform that raises everything off the base table level.

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

I don't see why GW can't do their own gothic ruins, that's sort of been 40k's "look" for decades. Why shouldn't they make their own?

Also, GW have started dipping their toes into Xenos terrain now - there's the Tau tidewall stuff and the new deathworld forest and shrine kits - which is great, since for years xenos terrain meant "stick cocktail sticks in a lump of polystyrene and make a space cactus"

It really just looks like they are fighting over a table size gothic cathedral. Everything is too visually similar because every wall is just the same high window. The sector mechanicus stuff had different outlines and shapes.

Sci-fi gothic is what 40k is. it would be weird if gw didnt do it.

(off topic:wait what other setting or game does scifi gothic..)

would of to see them do some eldar warpbone terrain.

"Everyone" makes lasercut MDF, which not all of us care for.

If I'm going to pay folding money for it rather than make it myself then I like my terrain highly detailed, 3-dimensional, and plastic(or, at a push, resin), so the only competition these have with me are the Pegasus gothic cathedral stuff, which is not bad but not amazing either.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Bear in mind that other companies make and sell gothic ruins because it's 40K's aesthetic.

The ruins remind me of the old FW ruin range. I still have some of that squirreled away. Anyway, I approve, and think it's the 'generic' ruins terrain that at least some hobbyists have been asking for for years.

To be honest the level of detail in that is nowhere near GW plastic terrain these days. Not to mention the price is quite steep...

It makes sense to me for the poster-company of Gothic sci-fi to have its own Gothic range. I think it looks great, I just hope there's some variety not just a few walls and connectors at various stages of collapse.

This. MDF is great if you want to get adequate terrain for a minimal investment of time and money. But if you want better than adequate the extreme limitations of MDF as a medium become crippling. It will never match good plastic/resin terrain in pure quality.

It's nice to have more variety. But yes, we need more LoS blocking stuff.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

This kit is plastic not mdf. You can't get the depth from mdf, you can only cut into a flat surface.

My trouble is that you will need a lot to make anything useful, and that can get expensive fast. If its deathworld forest type cheap plastic you might get value for money though.

I can only hope as it does look good, but I expect to be priced out quickly. It is also surprisingly mild, fewer skulls than usual.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I agree with this. I mean it works perfectly for the skirmish games but I want something to use in both. I suppose one could simply 'board up' the windows to make it look barricaded, or add copious amounts of debris... there are options but I'd like to see something ready to go out of the box. You can only have so many shipping containers

This is also a very significant fact. Like the old FW ruins it looks like a real thing in 40k, not an absurd parody of 40k like many of GW's recent designs.

Or just declare that the windows and such don't count for LOS. It's a very easy problem to fix.

It's not... examine closer, it's plastic. If I am wrong I will deeply apologize but though it looks thin walled it is actually about 1" or so, and there is lots of details inside the edges, multi-layered.

On a possibly trivial note -why is there a D10 on the board? I'm not aware that GW games use anything but D6s...
