Are mortals (say a chaos space marine) who ascend to demon princehood free to roam about outside the warp at their leisure? Or are they like other demons and need a rift to remain open/ or be summoned to materialize? I read that they can run demon planets, presumably outside the warp, which makes me think they are out and about in reality freely.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

Also, as a follow up, if they can stay in the material world, are they free to enter the warp and come out again at their leisure? And if they are killed, do they just go back into the warp like a normal demon?

They need some warp source/ steady sacrifice to maintain them, like other daemons.

Daemons planets are by definition planets which daemons can exist on, and will always have some warp source.

Daemon planets are half- to fully submerged in the warp already, so materializing there is a lot easier.

Demon Princes need a lot less warp energy to materialize than a regular deamon but they need it too and can be banished like any other daemon.

As for entering/coming out again, guess it depends on local conditions, really. How thick the 'veil' in particular place is.

So the fact that they are still have mortal origins makes it easier to stay outside the warp?

In Novels, Lore, and Other media that GW has put out I believe Daemon Princes can stay in reality easier than other daemons. Mortarion and Fulgrim in the Dark Imperium novel did not need to have Warp portals open as far as I can tell. Fulgrim’s ship seemed filled with just Emperor’s Children and no daemons whatsoever.

Interesting because I've read for the Dominion of Fire where Angron and a ton of World Eaters had fun outside of the warp and Angron needed monuments built to help keep him in the materium which he kept killing faster than they could be built.

Demon Primarchs are still Demons so they need Warp energy to exist in reality. There's no getting around that.

Yeah and as Greater deamon class deamons more than Princes they need substantial "tail" to keep them manifested and powerful.

they need a constant source of power, near the great rift that should be easier but firther away from say eye of terror or other places, you need monuments, events ot other things to mantain the warp energy flowing.

The only daemons I notice that seem to be an enigma to this lore rule are tzeentzch daemons, they seem to be able to maintain themselves outside of the warp the more powerful they are. Like changlings apparently can stay outta the warp for a long ass time. Or like lords lf change that can seemingly pop in and out and random

To many unpainted models to count.

yeah, but there kinda massively powerful psykers so they probbly have a few tricks others do not, and maybe can tap diffrent energy sources

Maybe using psychic powers brings warp energy in with the 'spell' so psyker demons can run a constant spell in the background to supply energy. That would actually be a pretty interesting thing to have in the lore.

yeah, or a spell that taps the warp energy in the background, constantly, weaker than a raw rift but reliable
