Right, I'am determined to make Legion Upgrade Despoiler Squads for my Traitor Legions without breaking the bank. In order to get the parts I am going to opt for a squad of Chaos marines and I already have a lot of parts anyway. But an interesting thought occurred to me...

If I take the full resin upgrade, this replaces the chest, shoulders and helmet for the entire model.

I will also be using the plastic chaos marine or spare bits from mark 4/3 for my arms and weapons. I can scour some more overt chaos iconography off although since they are older models its quite subdued anyway.

Since it appears in artwork, I can also use the chaos marine backpack. Again, suitably scoured of more overt chaos stuff.

So unless I am missing something, the only thing I actually need from the plastic mark 4 kit is the legs?

Would it be acceptable to pass the legs off as mark 6/modified mark 4. Would the models still be recognizably heresy if I got all the resin parts? I mean literally, I would be paying £30 for ten sets of legs and throwing the rest of the kit out.

You could get the legs on ebay for next to nothing but no i wouldnt be too bothered about the legs and i doubt many people would, maybe the super excessive everything has to be perfect period players but who cares about them they often have problems with conversions as well.

I certainly wouldn't start yelling about the legs, but as was said before, it's easy enough to find them sold separately so you may just be able to buy them for a small sum, and avoid any hastle (there are some people playing heresy era games who are VERY particular about the marks of armour they see fielded).

As long as you make the effort, I'm sure no one will mind.
