I've played plenty of 40k in the past and owned four armies. I moved away from wargaming towards D&D and other RPGs, keeping my miniatures hobby going with D&D miniatures.
Some friends of mine are looking at getting into Age of Sigmar by buying the start collecting boxes. Doing a little mini-league between them (us) and gradually expanding with future purchases. so we can learn to play together and grow our armies together too.

Before all this.. At christmas this year, I got myself (out of some money i was given) the Skeleton Horde start collecting box. Mainly for uses as D&D miniatures. Now, I'm almost certainly going to build this skeleton horde army up and play with them but one of the other guys has that box for this little league too. So I decided to get something else instead

I've played a lot of the new Vermintide 2 recently and that's made me lean toward Skaven Pestiens for this other army. After looking through all the Start Collecting boxes for AoS, I really can't decide between Skaven Pestilens, Fireslayers or Seraphon.
I really love the big beasties in the Seraphon and Fireslayers boxes, which makes me think I'd enjoy Seraphon more in general.

So can someone give me a breakdown of which boxes they feel are generally better and why? I've read some reviews, watched some youtube videos but I just can't make my mind up.

TL;DR
New AoS Player
Skaven Pestilens, Fireslayers or Seraphon and why?

If you like big beasties, then the Fyreslayers are probably not want you want, as it's mostly a horde army, and most competitive armies don't include any(or many) of the big beasty.
Seraphons though have more and better big beasties.
So based off of that alone, the Seraphon would be the best bet.

If it was me, though, I would probably go and expand your beginning Death army, regardless if someone else is also playing Death. With the new Legion of Nagash book, Death really got a boost and much more interesting rules.

Thanks for your input bud, I'm going to expand the Death army regardless.
This is sort of an "as well as" project.

Do you want a strong army? Pestilens works best mixed with Nurgle stuff (they are Nurgle as well), or with ratling guns. Oh Lord, the ratling guns...but they aren’t that strong on their own. Everyone talks up Seraphon, and they have a bunch of big beasties (Carnosaur, Troglodon, Bastilodon, Stegodon). I’d recommend them if you want big monsters.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
