For those unaware, the new T'au codex has changed the "Hover Tank" rule found on skimmers.

It now reads:
Hover Tank: Instead of measuring distances to and from this model’s base, measure to and from this model’s hull or base (whichever is closer).
Where it used to read
Hover Tank: Distance and ranges are always measured to and from this model’s hull, even though it has a base.
So because of GW's genius idea to not make special rules universal, we now have two rules with the same name but different effects.

Do you think GW is going to errata all the previous instances, and if not, does it matter?

What tanks exactly does this affect? Unless by extension GW has also confirmed that you can put models on whatever base you like.

All the Tau tanks were previously on 60mm flying bases, All of which were smaller than the tank.

Same goes for Eldar

Only on I can see it affecting if it changes is the new SM Primaris one.

The model hulls is always closer in this kind of models so it is not a problem really.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

You know what some WAAC players are like... they probably got a 4X4 foot table and said that was their hover tanks base. XD

Explodes is already a rule with multiple versions but the same name.

As for Hover Tank that's the version they gave me on the Custodes skimmers, so I expect they'll be giving that to other tanks as we move on.

If the tank was perched on something tall, the base could be closer then the hull to someone shooting from below. Or charging.

But we’re talking corner cases here.

Dude, if you didn't mount your Wave Serpents to a yardstick you aren't even trying.

And somehow having multiple variations of the same rule is better than having rules like these in the core rule book?

Also who puts their Tau Devilfish/Hammerheads/Skyrays on a skimmer base anyways? Those clear bases are a stiff breeze away from the stand snapping off at the end. Fortunately Tau tanks have those nifty landing gears so you can forgo the base entirely.

I just realised why they (might) have done it, to stop the overly tall flight sticks making it impossible to hit the tank in the Fight Phase.

Which I immediately realise doesn't actually help because the physical model will still put you more than 1" from the base and Hull.

I never understood why skimmers such as land speeders don't have this rule

would putting them on an elevated oval flyer base be considered modeling for advantage, since TLOS works both ways?
