Since it seems like everyone and their brother posts new Kickstarters here, and since I noticed that no one else has posted a thread about this project, I figured i'd do so myself.

Pillar of the community and overall solid dude Dave Taylor, he of the million armies, former member of the White Dwarf team, etc; has posted a Kickstarter to help him publish a book on collecting and converting miniature wargaming armies. Be a peach and back this project so that it'll hit the 37K stretch goal, as i'd like to see his Blood Pact army in greater detail. Please note that i'm not affiliated with Dave Taylor in any way, aside from bumping into him once at the Glen Burnie Battle Bunker when it was still in existence. Mods, if this isn't the place for this, feel free to delete or move this thread. Kickstarter information can be found here.

Picture and description.

10,000 miniatures and more! That’s how many wargaming models Dave Taylor has painted over the last 27 years. That’s dozens of armies, for some of the most popular wargames systems (and some of the most obscure, too!) Some of these have been commissions and others have been personal projects. During that time, he has had a LOT of conversations about the “what”, “why”, and “how” of the inspiration, preparation, and motivation for such large projects.

Last year, Dave decided it was high time he wrote all these things down, compiling decades of knowledge about completing wargaming armies on a regular basis. He also thought it would be cool to include detailed photographs of his more popular projects such as the Genswick 33rd Rifles, his Warlord Titan, and his Nuln Empire army.

This Kickstarter campaign is to fund a printed version of the book - ARMIES & LEGIONS & HORDES – a 100+ page hardback just perfect for sitting next to your hobby area for easy reference. There will also be an electronic version of the book created at the same time.

That is pretty neat! His armies always inspired me before GW shut down the creativity train.

Been a fan of Dave's for...a long time now. Thanks for posting this info.

I'll give this one a look and possibly even back it!

Why should I buy this book rather than just using the internet?

Um... hmm. For inspiration during a power outage? I honestly don't know. Seems like you could get the same experience browsing Google images and reading some painting blogs.

I guess the idea is you don't need to do that "work" online with the content printed in book format. *shrug*

I love the idea of a gallery book, but the price and the content don't necessarily attract me. 100+ pages is kinda vague. Is it 150? 103? Obviously the pages will go up now that stretch goals are being passed, but I still don't have a great idea of what this book will offer. And how much of the page count is devoted to images versus Dave's write ups? Having a sample chapter would be helpful to determine if there is any utility in this book for me other than gorgeous images.

I see this as a coffee table type book with a bit more depth; not sure how much I'll actually glean from it but I've been a fan of Dave Taylor's work for years and wouldn't mind some conversation about his works.

Yes, that!

Plus, I prefer books to PDFs and/or electronic equivalents and on top of all that, we'll be supporting a hobbyist whose efforts I enjoy and would like to see more of!
