Hey all. I decided to make a DAKKA DAKKA account after browsing the forums all day. You guys know your stuff... or you're really good at making it sound like you know your stuff.
Brand new to the hobby and I'm still deciding which army or armies to play. Hard to just go off of rule of cool alone. Almost all of the armies are amazing to look at.

Thanks! I think I'll pass on Forgebane though. Both of those factions aren't for me.

Welcome, I would suggest getting a few smaller projects: HQ singles or Troop choices as they will be the fundamentals of your army, I have found personally if I enjoy painting the troop choices or really like a specific model then I am more willing to grind the less interesting parts of creating an army. It also depends on how you like to play the game, I love to over run my enemies by throwing endless models into them and therefore horde armies are my thing, you might prefer something with less models more fire power like tau.

Welcome! Nice to see a fellow mountain person...(ok, I'm just in the sierra Nevada's, I suspect your mountains are higher...)
It is tough to start! So many options. Just take your time and do your research! What interests you more, the hobby side (painting, converting etc) or the playing side, or both equally?

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage. |

I like both, but I think my focus is more on the collecting and hobby side.
I bought the easy to build Intercessors and I've enjoyed painting them, but it has made me aware of the fact that I have shaky hands...

Hey, I'm not the greatest painter myself. Practice can help with all things, even the shaky hand thing. Just keep plugging away, and don't be scared to share.

Welcome to Dakka, if you peruse the painting section you will find some VERY good tutes that will help you out. Stay with it and you will get better. I have my first painted mini in my paint cubby that gives me motivation to constantly get better.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |
