Was just thinking about taking a bastion for my Iron warriors because fluff.

Well, the other part of the question is why take a Plasma Obliterator?

I completely missed your first line. Sorry about that.

Disadvantages for the PO would be the fact that it mortally wounds itself, while not being able to take advantages of buffs. And the fact that it explodes on a 4+ when killed.

Plasma Obliterator is just better at the moment. When a new Stronghold book comes out with updated fortifications I imagine the bastion will get a lot cheaper, but for now just stick a big turret on the end of a bastion and call it a day.

Could you kindly point me to a source for the plasma obliterator?

190 pts. for 2D6 shots hitting on 5s, mortally wounding itself on 1s, without any chance of rerolls, without any chance of repairs ? Thats pathetic

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Yeah, it's so cheap because it is absolute rubbish: it'll do about 2 wounds to an enemy tank and 1 wound to itself each turn and then blow up on turn 2 and kill your gunline.

I'd save up and get a FW tank if you want a big fluffy gun for your IW.

Well the idea is i wanted a fortification really as its fluffy for iron warriors and i thought it would be sweet to have something big to keep lascannon havocs safe and draw LoS from. I guess though i you are spending more on the thing that is keeping them safe than the unit in it something dont seem right

I guess t9 and 20w isnt that hard to pop.

Iron Warriors player here. I like taking a bunker and putting in a 5 man Havoc squad with 4 lascannons in there (165 pts). My IG friend cries at the shots he has to waste with his Russes to blow through.
Bunker is 100 points for a T8 12W 3+ save.

I was thinking about the bunker but the worry is its not to big for LoS

I guess you could be beardy and deploy it ontop of other terrain XD i cant actually see anything that stops you doing that.

I've played multiple games using a plasma obliterator exactly as you're describing and I can tell you a few things:

It's extremely durable. Over the course of a game, it'll draw fire only if your opponents big guns have nothing else to target, and even then they have a difficult time bringing it down. Also, don't freak out about the overheating...on average it's only doing 1 damage to itself per shooting phase.

Speaking of the shooting phase, be prepared to be frustrated. You'll either roll a small amount of shots, most of which miss, or get lucky and get boxcars for the number of shots...and see most of them wiff. When it does actually hit it usually does some damage, but don't expect anything from the gun. It'll make the one turn it actually does do something an added bonus.

190pts feels far too expensive for keeping it in a list. In the games I've used it, it did it's job and protected my dev squad, but seeing as how as Blood Angels I'm usually throwing other threats in their face, the protection of being in a bunker is oftentimes overkill. The fact that I no longer use the Plasma Obliterator in any of my lists forces me to advise against it's use...at least until it gets a points reduction.
