Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

I did both AM and PM VAnguard tournaments this year, and tried out some different Chaos combos, no specific allegiances.

AM was 2x5 Warriors, sorcerer lord on mount, juggerlord, 3khorgoraths, skarr bloodwrath, bloodstoker, and 3 plague toads. I dubbed my Slaves to Darkness units as Nurgle for defense against Nurgley effects but didn't play against any.

I figured the sorcerer lord would really help out the khorgoraths, but vs the Blood Tithe in the first game he just canceled out DAemonic Power every time; he's also easy to snipe out, which the Stormcast archers did in game 2, and the Fyreslayer dwarves did in game 3 after tunneling up and using some rune to get a 16" axe range.

The toads did make a good tarpit, but that's it, even in a full Nurgle list I just don't think they're that great.

Khorgoraths did massive work except vs the Stormcast archers who killed them off in turn 2 from far away....they got an unlucky charge roll which the Stoker couldn't help out enough. But their 2 damage attack is awesome. Gotta paint the bloodsecrator and wrathmongers to get them extra killy.

Skarr Bloodwrath is a blender, but I had real trouble getting to good target areas with him. He scares people, especially after the juggerlord makes wound on 2s, but then he gets killed easily. Luckily there's usually enough carnage to get him resurrected and give me at least something to pop up in the backfield! Those tunneling dwarves, and other armies, have a really good advantage with that, that my marauders no longer have due to Wulfrik's going AWOL from the rules For a Chaos soup army I think some Skaven would be good who could tunnel.

My PM army was the sorcerer lord, 5 warriors, 10 daemonettes, herald slaanesh on steed, 6 fiends, herald of tzeentch on disc, 3 flamers. Played vs Seraphon, then 2 Syvaneth guys.

Flamers were MVP for sure, and their herald also super good with at least 3 mortal wounds every time the blue fire came out. For non Azgorh shooties, I think the Flamers take the cake.

I found the Slaanesh units to be lackluster, though they looked so pretty. The fiends are fast, but just lack good killyness, and a 5+ save isn't too great, same for their herald. Daemonettes and all daemon troops need that icon! I didn't have time to make and paint one and I rolled 4 1s for battleshock that I remember, which would have been sooooo great to add ladies back to the unit. Still, I think Ill hold onto the Slaanesh as they are all painted and glittery already (so no work), and a future battletome will really make them more competitive, and their current allegiance crap is decent too (just lacked enough finishing time or I would've given that a whirl).

Summary lessons for Chaos soup in Sigmar: Khorgoraths rock. Nurgle units really need the Maggotkin I think to do anything. Flamers are excellent fire support without any other buffs, then with daemonic power on them are extra spicy. Slaanesh also probably needs mono-allegiance to make their units work, which they only partially have right now. One thing I only remembered occasionally was the unpredictable destruction Chaos Allegiance Ability. Buffing to hit rolls is immensely good, which is why I picked the lord of war command trait. Don't forget UNPREDICTABLE DESTRUCTION!
