Hey all, question for you.

What unit do you have the most fun playing with? Which model or squad do you bring to the table, excited to see what it does and how it performs? What unit do you take in your lists that may not be the 'meta' or the 'best' but you just can't resist adding to your army?

And what are some epic moments it's had?

For me, it's my Ironclad Dreadnought. I love that little toaster. He looks tiny compared to some of the newer, bigger robots out there, but he packs a serious punch. In recent memory, my favorite moment was him going toe to toe with a Space Wolf dreadnought. He lost miserably, but trading blows in a Thunderdome-esque way was just an epic moment!

DKoK Grenadiers, they were my first model ever and I'll always bring them when I play my DKoK list, even if its only for them to die as they're shoved out of the back of Valkyrie.

Eldar War Walkers. They're these cheap, quick little guys that can deploy where they're needed, shoot stuff up well, and are fairly durable.

My most memorable moment: first game of 40k I ever played (6th edition), first shot of the edition fired from a war walker bright lance into my opponent's transport, then exploded it and killed about 1/2 of two separate units around it. Felt good.

Any of the ork walkers, but especially the Gorkanaut. I know he's overpriced, can't shoot for crap, and doesn't have an invuln in CC making him pretty flimsy in comparison, but I just have a soft spot for huge, diesel-chugging, earth-shaking, metal-clanging, iron-plated, made in the god-damn US of A mechs. None of that anime Tau crap.

Plague Marines. I like their high toughness slowly advancing playstyle.

Many ways to equip them and plenty of abilities and stratagems to make them work. Also very fun to build, paint and convert with lots of different bits and models.

I am having a lot of fun buffing their toughness to 6 with Putrecent Vitality against S3 lasguns. Would be great if marines in general would be a bit more effective tho, I'd love to field multiple units but right now it's not very viable. They do great in casual games tho!

In 7th I had a lot of fun times with my "Git Wagon" which was a Killkannon Battlewagon filled with a unit of 10 Flash Gitz. Would hunker down in some ruins with that and serving pie plates while making it rain dakka on any souls caught out of cover. Rarely did they disappoint but they where a slow burn unit that would be defensively difficult to dig out (shoot the bwagon camped in ruins with flash gitz or focus on all the other more pressing threats) and by the late game they could start to dominate the board as the major threats to the wagon where neutralized or diminished.

My biggest playmaker was my Mega Armored Warboss who would face tank bullets like a boss and was not above throwing Boyz into the way of anything AP2. In one game vs 7th edition Crons, he and a PK Nob (with his mob of 17 looted slugga boyz) took down roughly half of a Necron army by themselves. Multi charges like crazy and some bad luck on the cron part of passing a leadership 4 morale check on some warriors so it kept them locked in combat on the cron's turn.

Command squads for my Space Marines. When I started out with Black Templars, I loved overequipping them, but boy oh boy, they did pack a punch. 10 man, all kitted out for close combat, a bucketload of power weapons and power fists and, to top if of, Furious Charge, back then with +1 S and +1 I.

They may not be that powerful, but I still love the sight of a complete command squad on the field (read: Apothecary, comp. Ancient, comp. Champ and a couple company veterans. Still rather expensive and more shooty than choppy (or burny, for that matter), but I just have a soft spot for them!

Ts hard to nail down for me because honestly i have fun with everything in my army. So I'll go with the models i love the looks of or ones ive cared aabout to customise.

First up would be my Knight which i modded up with an organ cannon on top and slap a heap of SoB stuff all over it including a penitent engine pilot in the headspace. Such a great looking centrepiece especially when accompanied by my trio of Exorcists- thats my "war music" formation. So sexy on the table.
Highlight moment for the knight was when it blew up in the middle of enemy's force and did full 6 mortals wounds on each of the 6 units around it.

Next is my Cannoness who i converted to have a jump pack, plasma pistol and inferno pistol (was a heealds of ruin conversi on) I use her as a seraphim superior now. She ALWAYS overcharges her plasma pistol and she ALWAYS has it blow up in her face the first time she fires it in game. Which is fitting because her plasma pistol arm is a bionic arm from a guard sprue, so i imagine she has a closet full of spare arms and at the end of each battle she just goes and puts a new arm on.

Full BSS and support i like too. Looks great to see a 15 (why they take away our 20?) Sisters squad with an imagifier, hospitaller and dialogus together.
Theyre pretty fun.

This is the kind of post, for which I need more "likes".

For me, my Blood Angel tactical Marines. They are the most spectacular looking rank and file troop choice in the game. (Custodes don't count, the posers) and even though they don't kill much, they always manage to score me the most points in any given game I play with them.

Three Bullgryns are threatening the depose my Penitent Engine from the "most fun" top spot. Both are really fun to run forward or stash as a countercharge, and nobody ever seems quite prepared for how hard they hit.

Contemptor with two C-Beam cannons. Shoot it at a tank more than 48" away? No problem - S10 AP3 3D3 damage per shot. Shoot it at infantry more than 24" away? S8 AP3 2D3 per shot and each kill causes 2D6 S6 AP0 hits.

It's the perfect one size fits all weapon.

Recently, probably aggressors, was at a tournament on saturday and three of them wiped out a 20 man genestealer blob in a single 80 shot volley. Of course the very next game they killed like maybe 2 space marines and punched a dread to death, so their performance can swing pretty wildly.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

For me it's Plague Marines. The iconic unit of Death Guard that I've been playing games with for the better part of 20 years.

They are not the most competitive choice. But every game a few units of these guys always achieves something admirable - especially when the stars align and your DR rolls are hot! Infuriated quite a few opponents in the past because they just refused to die

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."
