Trailer is up:

From the producer of The Babadook, and starring Martin Freeman, comes Cargo. Based on the viral short film, this is the story of a man and his infant daughter who are stranded in the middle of a zombie apocalypse in rural Australia. And when he becomes infected, the countdown begins for him to find her protection before he changes forever.

Looks great, I think!

Sounds interesting.

And with any luck, it won't be Martin Freeman playing Slightly Exasperated Character 25467895. Just for a change.

He's played that in The Office, The Hobbit trilogy and pretty much everything else.

He's really good at that though, so even if it is that (whatever you think 'that' is), it will be better than most other things out there, and certainly better then what The Walking Dead is churning out these days.

Seems like a low bar. TWD was never a good show IMO. It had a single above-average first season, which was at least partially due to tapping into the zombie zeitgeist (which was already starting to subside). Shortly thereafter, the poor writing and plotting immediately began to reveal itself, from it's incomprehensible character motivations to the incredible unlikeable "protaganists" like Carl, Lori, Andrea, Dale, and so on. The only thing good about the show has ever been the special effects and the single talented actor in it's ranks, Norman Reedus.

TWD will not get better next season, because it was never very good to begin with. It's based off a comic book that frankly isn't that great either; it's a wall of flimsy plot and mediocre art that is patched up by agony porn and cheap shocks. This is not a foundation upon which quality television is built.

There is so much really great stuff on right now that it's a shame anyone is watching it.

I loved the first couple of seasons, then I hate watched it until
Spoiler:
they killed Andrea off. I hated her so, so much.

I actually cheered out loud when that happened. I stopped watching it soon after that. Why should I care about any of these horrible characters?

Cargo looks good. Freeman is always solid.

Felt like one of those trailers that revealed too much.

Definitely checking it out though. Loved Freeman in his season of Fargo, particularly.

Yeah, even if I love it I'm going to forever wonder if they shouldn't have revealed right up front that he gets bitten, right?

Yep.

I thought I reached peak zombie movie like 4 years ago, but this one and the Ellen Page fronted "post-zombie" movie The Cured keep pulling me back into the genre.

Optimistic about this. I am up for any story that isn't just "SURVIVE THE ZOMBIES".

Pretty much the same for me. The strange thing is, loved her in the comics. HATED her in the show. Same for Rick.

Yeah, TWD is ported so badly to TV that I always wonder how it has such a big following.
The comics are (or were - they got pretty average, too) awesome with good writing and 'real' characters with plausible motivations. The show has... nothing of that.

In rural Australia? Surely the local fauna would have taken care of any zombies long before they would become a threat.

Most of the danger in Australia comes from how incredibly deadly everything's bite is. Zombies don't care how venomous you are. Crocs are gonna get the ones near the rivers, though.

I dunno, a punch from a Kangaroo sounds like a bad time. If I understand correctly, they are pretty territorial and aggressive when threatened.

Also, you have to remember, Australia lost a war against Emus. I mean, I wouldn't feth with an Emu or a Kangaroo.

I gotta admit, I scoffed at 'from the producers of the Babadook'. I mean, I really liked that movie, but did anyone finish watching it and think 'that was such an amazingly produced movie, I wonder what the producers will produce next"?

But then I read, and this looks really promising. The concept here, from the outback isolation to the need to find someone to care for his kid before he succumbs, that's sounds like it could produce something really good. I've got high hopes for this one.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I don't know how important the producer's role is in film making. Are they like producers in music, where their oversight and skill can bring out the best, or are they just throwing money at a crew and hoping they get a decent rate of return on their investment? The Babadook was beautifully shot and well paced and well acted, but overall the story let me down. I don't know where the producers entered nto that.

Ditto. Unless Freeman butchers an Aussie accent for an hour and a half.
