Was browsing the forums over at No Dice No Glory and one of the old BF forum stalwarts posted these images (evidently from somewhere off Facebook). Reposting them here for folks who don't wander too far away from the confines of the Dakkaverse:

NATO Starter Force:

Mmmmmm, more plastic tanks. No word on release date, though with the FoW release schedule running to May with Armored Fist, I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's a June release. If anyone's run across more information please do share.

Sweet. I just expanded my list out a bit more. Still waiting on some VADS to come in, but I've almost got my 100 points together.

Weren't the Swedes officially neutral? I suspect it'll be a while before we see any of their stuff that can't be used by another country.

The Leopard I box seems to have mysteriously vanished from the On-Line store. Between that, and the picture from the NATO's First Line box cover, I'm guessing that they're going to release a plastic Leopard I. I'm sure most of NATO will appreciate that.

I've never had the chance to read Harold Coyle's book so I'm not sure if they were neutral or not, nor if they remained that way f they were.

Actually, I'm talking real world.

Also, they're not in Coyle's book, nor would they really have anything to do with it. The action in that novel is fairly local. IIRC, the only non-US NATO forces in the book are some troops from West Germany. The Swedes are probably mentioned in Hackett's book, though, which Coyle's book uses as the setting.

Not to be TFG, but the plastic Leo 1 was announced by BF in their Christmas video. Screengrab from 5:34 showing the two variants it will build:

French plastic models are also visible at 5:00 and the plastic T-55 (which is partly released at this point; sort of... *waits on US to receive stock*) at 5:59.

As far as the Swedes, they'd be a very difficult force to include gameplay-wise, I'd imagine. The S-tank is very much a defensive weapon, and for the Swedish it would likely have served admirably in that role. The fixed gun mount would have made it much weaker in an assault situation, but the Swedes realistically never felt like they were going to be in much of an attacking position given who their likely opponents would be in any conflict. Hence, the S-Tank was a pretty great idea for what they were looking to accomplish in reality. Translating the limitations of a purely defensive doctrine onto the tabletop without doing things like "auto-defend" seems tricky.

I suppose in a world where we've brought in the Sgt. York though, S-Tanks on the attack wouldn't be the weirdest thing about the setup. Personally I'd like for them to make plastic Centurions (Stridsvagn 81 in Swedish service, and they still would have been active in '85) and resin S-Tanks for a Swedish force. If the Aussies warrant a list, then so do the Swedes! Plus Centurion is another of those designs that "deserves" to be in plastic since they can be used from Korea through to the Team Yankee era in second-line formations.

Makes sense I guess, we used German tanks. Would be nice to see plastic YP, YPR and DAF trucks, but I doubt it.

The release of France means that the last of the "big" NATO nations is out. And the other nations in the book probably won't need much in the way of new figures, which is no doubt why they were bundled in (even if the ANZACs are a bit of a stretch; the official explanation provided is that the unit present was "on a training mission in Europe" when the war started). So yeah, hopefully Poland and Czechoslovakia should be next. They're the other northern Pact nations, and so would be the opponents for the NATO nations released to date. At that point, the only military missing from the map on pages 4-5 would be the Belgian Army.

Yes, it seems like since they were a "on the map" faction that they would have been included, especially over ANZAC. I guess BF isn't really committed to the Belgians and they're...waffling?

I believe it was stated that the next stop for TY after this was "oil war" - Iraq and Iran which would be a mix of Soviet and NATO assets.

And when combined with the existing kit, that would be enough to let you refight Desert Storm (aside from imortant missing stuff like, you know, the BRADLEY).

Any source on that ? I've heard Iran/Iraq was "wouldn't it be cool ?", but never that it was actually in the works.
The TY Arab Israeli book is scheduled for late june.

Yes, I'd like to know more of such rumors myself.

Down the road I think it'd be interesting to see a "Waking Dragon" (or some such book) for China where they're somewhat their own faction (i.e. - not allied with the Soviets). The Far East would still be an arena for conflict with a China-backed North Korea making a grab for the South (as the US would be distracted) while China looks to consolidate power over SE Asia. There'd be a better justification for ANZAC forces in that theater as well, since they'd already be defined for Europe. That would then make the "oil war" a potential four-way fight between the Arab nations, WARPAC, China and NATO/Israel. Pure wish-listing there though.

Only thing I've heard is they'll be shifting to the mid-90's. A late 80's conflict seems kind of silly... since they're already doing that.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

While I'm dubious that we'll see it on the shelves in the US before the end of May, I'm not going to upset if it does in fact make it either. My wallet might prefer a June on-the-shelf date though, especially if Imperial Knights kick off May.

So many Leopards...

They officially announced just that last year, yes.
Early TY will be 60s-70s, with Vietnam already released, and Fate of a Nation (Arab-israeli wars) to be released in june. Possible other theaters have been mentionned, including a 60s version of TY's cold war gone hot.
Mid-TY is the current game, though there's talk of expanding beyond Europe.
Late-TY will be more modern engagements, 90s and beyond.

havent payed attension to anything fow related since 4th edition dropped.

so will the viet/FoaN officialy be incorperated into the TY whit new point cost and statcard and whatnot that current TY has, or will it stay as the standalone as it is and only be linked to TY by means of lore/fiction?
i have been wanting to collect a IDF force too, but if that stuff will be revamped i`ll wait.

I don't understand your question ? Vietnam already has been updated to TY (well, V4 actually), with the 100 points system, and statcards, FoaN should do so by june.

last time i looked at vietnam, it had the same point system as ww2 late war and was basicly a stand alone game, just as the FoaN booklet i got for free from a issue of wargames illustrated.

Though the URL may contain a hint that this was done too...

Still waiting on my order from the sale though... It's a good thing I have a decades-long painting backlog. Though all of my Team Yankee stuff is actually all assembled/sorted except for some Soviet Heavy Weapons teams. If only I could move on with the "painted" step...

To add (just in case it wasn't clear), 'Nam and the new Fate of a Nation book will be completely compatible points-wise. So it will be entirely possibly to use an Israeli paratrooper list against a VC list in an ahistorical match-up.

Of course, whether or not that'll actually be a good match-up (since the two lists are designed for entirely different opponents) is another story entirely. But points-wise, it'll work.
