Saw this tonight. It's one of the best horror movies I've seen in a really long time, and it's so masterfully done that it's hard to believe it's John Krasinski's directorial debut.

trailer if you haven't heard of it:

Will have to wait for cable, but I'm looking forward to it as well. Looks good in the trailers and stuff. Don't think I've seen him in anything since the office.

The guy that played the American version of the guy that played the young version of Bilbo Baggins? I would not have pegged him as a horror aficionado.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

I haven't seen it yet, but everyone who has told me this is pretty much among the best horror movies they've ever seen. The theater is so quiet people stopped eating their snacks. Insane.

That was my experience as well - when everyone on screen is trying to be quiet, everyone in the theater does so as well. It was a really neat experience.

Reckon it's one I'll watch in Cinema.

I live near a couple of fairly busy roads, and a carpark the local oiks seem to have mistaken for the Nurburgring. So the chances of getting suitable quiet to enjoy as it's intended seems.....slim.

I really enjoyed this movie, however

Spoiler:

At the end all I could think of was

Bullets! My only weakness! How did you know?

And that if Burt was there the monster problem would have been solved a long time ago.

He would have gone out to a baseball or football field, Set up like 6 or 7 remote control cars around the edges with lil speakers set to blast yodeling music and pipe bombs rigged to detonators. Take a seat in the bleachers and turn on one speaker and start driving the car around. Monster gets near it, blow it up. Grab the next remote and detonator and repeat until the monsters stop showing up. Move to the next town and do it again.

Burt would have loved to live in that world.

Did you forget the monsters are armored like a tank and move at breakneck speed? Im pretty sure people shot them before, and until that thing opened up its head to show off its squishy parts it would of shrugged that shotgun off too

Not sure how I feel about that. The movie is great on it's own. What can they do to keep it fresh while maintaining that level of tension?

Nothing solid yet, but it seems like they left some ideas on the cutting room floor.

The announcement in question:

Not that it’s much of a surprise, as the film continues kicking major ass at the box office, but Paramount just officially confirmed at CinemaCon tonight that a sequel to John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place is already in the works. The film has to date pulled in over $200 million worldwide, returning to #1 on the domestic charts this past weekend.

Studio chairman Jim Gianopulos made the exciting announcement.

Recently, A Quiet Place writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck had noted that they have plenty of ideas for a sequel, so we can only assume/hope they’ll be back.

“It’s such a fun world,” Woods told Fandango a few weeks back. “There are so many things you could do.” Beck added, “There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell.”

At this time, no release date has been set, nor we do know if Krasinski is involved.

To paraphrase Mark Hamill, just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good.

A Quiet Place IS good. It's REALLY good.

But if the sequel is just going to be more of the same then it won't be good. It needs to show us something new. That Is what I am concerned about. What else does this world have to show us without changing the tone to something else entirely?

A comparison:

Alien is a great horror movie.

Aliens showed us something new and was also great but completely changed the tone to more of an action movie (while keeping some but not all of the horror elements).

Alien 3 tried to return to 1, I enjoy it but it's mostly more of the same. Granted there are a lot of reasons 3 has problems mostly related to studio interference. This alien was more aggressive than the first, the people were less capable of defending themselves then even the space truckers, and the real tension was Ripley herself. But really.... not a lot new here. Generally considered one of the bad alien movies as a result.

Resurrection was writen by general writing hack Joss Whedon and it lost all the tone of Alien and went full bore into flashy hollywood action. This movie basically lost all it's soul. But again, the Newborn and Human/Alien hybrids was their way of showing us something new coupled with a huge tonal shift.

Tremors on the other hand maintains it's tone in every film. But each entry manages to show us something new. Even number 4 managed to be new by taking us back to the wild west where the modern day tricks won't work.

So we have seen these monsters. We have seen their weaknesses now. We know how to deal with them. Are we going to watch another family in another part of the world try to stumble onto the same answer or are we going to watch a family who knows whats up drive around hunting these things with a big tonal shift? Can what made this movie great survive that and still be good? I repeat, I am concerned.

I think this is one of the better horror movies, probably the best in many years, but I definitely don't see any reason to make a sequel.

Yeah sounds like asking for a repeat of Sinister to me. A neat clever idea that relies on a very simple but effective gimmick to present itself, and follow it up with a crappy sequel why?

Because even Sinister 2 brought in $52 million on a budget of $10 million. Even decent to terrible horror films are notoriously lucrative.

Suprised 2 sequels and a spinoff weren't announced, ala The Conjuring franchise and its affiliates.

I was down to go see this today but my stupid family had other ideas. They seem to think I’m some sort of stand by taxi. There’s always the weekend.

The anticipation is maddening though. I’ve heard only good things about this movie!
