For my Chaos soup dirty tricks army, I'm thinking Skaven will help by getting across the table sneaky style. Gutter Runners caught my eye for the edge-flanking with ninja stars. Also the Stormfiends look like they can arm themselves with ratling cannons AND a tunneler guy, is that accurate? Or is it better to have three guns, and get a warp-grinder team to dig for the Stormfiends?

The other idea was a warp-grinder to go with a plague priest for the wound roll boons he can provide, but he needs to be close.

At Adepticon the Sylvaneth and tunneling Fyreslayers really caused some problems with all their popping up all over the place. Since Wulfrik sailed off into rules history, I don't have anything to pull that same trickery.

Anyone think there are better ways for miscellaneous Chaos to cause confusion and mayhem in the enemy's backfield? Would Gutrot Spume and some Blightkings be better overall than the rats? I'm liking that the rats can shoot stuff after they come in, though especially the Gutter Runners are pretty squishy.

When equipping stormfiends there is only one question to ask: will they be getting bonuses to hit in close combat?

Yes: All shock gauntlets.

No: All warfire projectors.

The other weapon options are just there to look nice on the sprue, or be used to convert one of the above.

Spume + blightkings is also a strong option.

Ratling guns. As many as you can cram in. Feth me, I hate those things!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I was liking those too. Mo dakka! it almost seems like skaven are the AoS version of orks in 40k. Their ramshackle machines are fun.

Three stormfiends with ratling cannons will put out an average of 7.87 wounds at rend -1 at 12".

Three stormfiends with warpfire projectors will do an average of 12 mortal wounds at 8".

The 4" extra range really, really isn't worth it.

Can't argue with mortal woundage! That's why I'm making Skullreapers for my Blades of Khorne army.

However, for the pop-in, my worry about the Stormfiends with warpfire is that they'll be such a perceived threat that all enemy focus will be on them and they wouldn't be able to do much at all.....short of making that Gautfyre Skorch battalion; what tome is that from?

It's from the grand alliance chaos book.

At any rate, if you have a unit that is so much a threat it gets focused down to die first the solution is to protect it with cover, mystic shield, and tactical movement. And at 4+ armor with 6 wounds a piece and strong melee attacks there isn't an easy way to get rid of them.

There's no logic to 'this unit is so strong it gets killed, replace it with a weaker version'.
