“Look for the return of Abaddon and his entourage this year on the heels of the Orks.”

So we know he is coming back! Probably a new model! In the past GW has said that more Triumvirate Boxes were coming, and for a long time last year the rumor was that Abby would be in one!

Abaddon will be accompanied by a chaos bodyguard.
The Bringers of Despair are coming back.
These are described at WS2+, BS2+ Black Legion Terminators
They will be able to absorb wounds for the boss.
There will be other minis coming as well.

Agreed - the whole article is for this:

Industry insiders report:

Then on queue, the birds start chirping. This came in form one of Gary’s tipsters:

Abaddon will be accompanied by a chaos bodyguard.

Pretty exciting I'd say, a new Abbadon is about what? 20 Years overdue? The addition of terminators, and potentially other kits seems to point in a direction I had assumed the company would head: Namely that after the main codex release is finished, they'll start working on updating the outdated model range!

When these were whispers a few weeks ago I immediately thought this was their way in for Primaris sized CSM redesigns.

Just like UM are poster boys for Loyalists, the BL would be the basic template for CSM.

Then all we do is paint them up in the appropriate Legion color schemes.

Maybe, but for something like that they'd dedicate way more releases to it, which I don't think will happen.

I hope Abaddon has pose options - arms on, or arms off to replicate the classic look.

I think the more specific discussion about units and characteristics here means that this can remain in its own thread, rather than going into the codex release schedule thread.

At least for now - let's see how it goes

my guess is they're more akin to black Legion Death Shrouds, or Black Legion Honor guard.

I really hope, if true, it's not 'Black Legion' as a codex by itself.

Why? I don't know. It seems off to me to make a codex of something that's already able to be created from an existing codex. (Black Legion Warband)
If it's something new, like the 'Chosen of Abbadon' or something, I can dig it.

Also, here's hoping plastic kits for some of the stuff is on the way. Havocs updated would be pretty cool.

None of this matters if Codex CSM doesn't get some major fixes or updates. If we see an overhaul to MeQs or terminators all get a 3rd wound or something, then i'll be interested. But right now, Black Legion is very weak. So putting out more stuff for them without addressing the uselessness of their basic units won't accomplish much I'm afraid.

So if we don't get a Codex CSM overhaul, I will be hoping for a Codex: Black Legion

I doubt Black Legion will get their own codex; they're the standard for CSM, Codex: CSM is already "Codex: Black Legion" in the same way you could say Codex: SM is Codex: UItramarines.

yeah most likely this'll be 1 or 2 new units and some resculpts. the MOST we could hope for is a traitor guard codex or something

Have we had a proper unit without a codex yet? I know we've had some new models like the Armiger which come with a sheet in the box, and will have proper full rules in the Knights codex, but I'm curious how GW will be handling new model releases which don't have a codex.

Black Legion absolutely do not need a codex at all, so will the unit entry be available as a generic PDF free download, or only as a sheet of paper in the box? We haven't really seen how GW will be handling this have we?

I suppose the unit could be in a campaign book, ala Gathering Storm, etc. This would be a pain since it would re-introduce the "buy 15 books to complete your army" kind of stuff. I'm just wondering how GW plans for these kind of releases in the future.

"Chaos Space Marines is the Black Legion Codex anyways, already."

Weren't these and similar arguments given for why there wouldn't or shouldn't be a Black Legion codex the last time a Black Legion codex was released? Although I agreed with these arguments back then and I still agree with them now.

GW packs a rules pamphlet in the model's box. I recently purchased some immortals with rules included, up to date for 8th edition and everything.

Yeah. Remember it doesn't even MATTER whether they need codex or not.

It's new book. Book they can sell to players. Sale that generates profit for GW. Book that isn't that hard for GW to produce. See why there's good chance there IS going to be black legion codex?

I think it's too early for that (not for Abaddon, he should have come with the 6th. ed CSM codex. Or 6th. Ed. Black Legion Codex. Or 7th. ed. CSM Codex. Or 7th ed. Black Legion Codex. Or Gathering Storm. Or Traitor Legions. Or Traitors Hate. Or 8th. ed. Codex.)
But I see World Eaters or/and Emperor's children before a new Black Legion Codex. Of Black Legion comes soon, then I'll expect a copy/ paste from the old codex, though that would be a huge miss fluffwize, I want to know what happened to Abby after he won the 13th crusade...

Moral dilemma... I am also of the opinion that WE and EC should be the next chaos books, and that BL doesn't really need their own book, but I would totally buy it and any new models that come out with it. Especially blinded up terminators and Abby.

Gadammit if the summer box set contains orks and the BL stuff is true then GW may as well take my wallet and a kidney now.

He will be released without arms, thus making him a bit lighter
It would be pretty funny if they gave him 2 bionic arms.

They had their own book in 6th and 7th though. I mean, to me it seems like the long term plan for Chaos is to mirror loyalists.

Codex Ultramarines [Primarch Exists, Codex also rumored]
Codex Dark Angels [No Primarch yet]
Codex Blood Angels [No Primarch yet]
Codex Space Wolves [Rumored Next]

Codex Black Legion [Abbadon replaces Primarch, perhaps even becomes one with Biles help?]
Codex Death Guard [Primarch Exists]
Codex Emperors Children [Strong Rumors]
Codex World Eaters [Strong Rumors]
Codex Thousand Sons [Primarch Exists]

Each will have a Primarch. Then I see them shifting the Vanilla Codex for CSM and SM to having all the other stuff crammed in them. It makes a lot more sense to me as a player to do this rather than continuing as they have. If the Ultras are so important to the crux of their story, why do they not have a stand alone codex, when in fact other factions MUCH less important, do? If I were a gambler, I'd say that within the next 3-5 years this will be the new model for how these two parts of 40K operate.
