This thread got me wondering: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/750856.page

What house rules are people using?

My favourite house rule is "Play by the rules in the rulebooks."

Me and my group tend to ignore First Blood as it just seems to reward alpha shooting and causes whoever goes first to get an extra VP.

(before I get ripped apart, it's just our opinion, feel free to love the rule)

^This. Keep to all the rules in the rulebook but drop this because getting turn 1 is a bonus enough.

Being fully within 3" of an area terrain is enough to grant cover.

Area terrain like forests block LOS past the terrain feature (cannot shoot from outside of it on one side clear thru it to the other).

Basilisks cannot shoot into buildings. Sorry, artillery rounds don't use doors. Same for all things that don't require LoS.

Units can fire out of structures, but before the beginning of the game, determine if the building has stats like T and W. If not, it provides "hardened cover" to units inside. Hardened cover provides an extra +1 bonus to armor saves that cannot be ignored in addition to the regular +1. If the building has stats, it is pretty much treated as a stationary vehicle with fire points.

I gathered that from some of your other threads

Even within that I guess RAI vs RAW is another type of house rule, as well as playing with advanced rules or not, and whether people use rules from CA or not.

I'd be interested to see what the variation is there too in addition to very specific house rules...

While not a house rule per se, I've found using the night fight rules for turn 1 helps even things out a bit.

Tops if buildings grant cover. Thats about it.

I floated the No First Blood idea with a couple of guys but we never really reached a consensus.

When rolling dice, if it goes off the table, it is automatically the most unfavourable result (1 or 6 usually).

Seriously, youve got a 6 foot table. You should be able to keep it on there.

Oz

If Mr Whiskers makes it to the tabletop and starts knocking over models before he can be unceremoniously removed, those models count as casualties.

Forgot the most important house rule...

Shouting "Chaos wills it!" while a player is rolling to see if a vehicle explodes causes him to have to roll two dice instead of one.

Apparently we have nuclear vehicles at our table, for better and worse!

Hah!

Don't have space for a 6 foot table at home, and with all the books everywhere too it's pretty common for dice to fall off in my games.

For us that is a re-roll, regardless of the result.

This is the best house rule, with an addendum - if you dice off for a rule interpretation and then bray like a cut goat about losing said dice off, you go out.

Yeah, we tend to do that as well. Also, I guess using the CA method for determining who gets the first turn for BRB missions as well is technically a house rule.

If you draw an objective like Witch Hunter or Scour the Skies and your opponent doesn't have a Psyker/Flyer etc then you can immediately discard it and draw another.

When me and friend play we just house rule cover save as 50% or more of the target model is obscured, no need for it to be on terrain. Makes more sense for both of us that way.
