Hello,

I have been using the "Martian Ironearth" texture paints for my bases on a project. The problem I am encountering is that the paint dries and forms cracky ground as is should, but it doesn't hold to the bases, and flakes off quickly. I was wondering why this is the case, I can easily switch to Ironcrust (I actually use both on my bases) but I really, really like the cracked dry earth texture and if I can figure out what is going wrong and fix it, that would be great! Anyone else encountered this problem before?

Have you thought about supergluing it to the base after it’s dried?

I don't think that would be realistic, these are very, very fragile and very, very small. What I am trying is an experiment, I primed a base with Chaos Black spray and then put the texture down ontop of that after it hard dried. If it holds, then my hypothesis that this specific texture paint has a reaction with something on the basic base.

Are you using enough? I didn’t, and had the same issue.

You should always apply technical paint on some color underneath, and maybe even a matt or gloss varnish.

I have a crackle paint that uses elmer glue as a base. First the woodglue then after it dries you can put the crackle paint on the surface and it should keep it there...but dont forget to seal it with matt varnish or you will always have flake off.

Exactly that. I use Agrellan Earth for my desertic-themed armies and always basecoat the base with some skrag brown. Not only it won't show the black plastic, but it helps to keep the technical in place.
I think that applies just to the cracking technical paints tho. On my Kharadrons I use Stirland Battlemire and it doesn't need any basecoating before application.

I will try this! And I had planned on putting a clear varnish over them just to seal it all up before gluing the models to the bases.

I've heard you need to go over the bases first with sand paper, then add a thin layer of wood glue to the base before adding the texture paint.

? Never heard that advice.

Make sure your model parts are clean before painting, bases included. I use astrogranite and don't have this problem. Perhaps try priming the base first and let the texture paint bond to that.

So Update:

What I have done is apply an extremely thin layer of the Martian Ironearth texture on the base, and allowed it to dry. Then, I applied a much thicker second layer and it worked perfectly! The problem was that the base was black and when the crust picked up, it showed the black base underneath!
