Hi all,

In light of the spring FAQ, I've modified my army to be a pure AM competitive list. Thoughts on its competitiveness? I'm not sure what is worth replacing either Grand Strategist or Kurov's Aquila with seeing as how I'm swimming in CPs.

It's rather similar to what I'm fielding except that I have space marine devestators instead of catachan manticores, and Elysians instead of scions. Also, I put sniper rifles on my elite squads rather than plasma guns and lascannons.

Total: 342

Gives you 5 more plasma over what you currently have. And they can deep strike were you want. You do lose your cadian reroll ones but given the flamers on the Sentinels and the removal of most special weapons its not really a loss except for maybe Pask. You do lose 4 lascanons but I think the extra plasma more then make up for it.

Also if you want to save a few more points you can switch the mortars to Elysians or DKoK to make each squad 3 points cheaper.

If you play heavy blocking terrain this list will rock. Pretty good. Your indirect fire will punch holes in his screens turn 1 then turn 2 you can drop you 12 deep striking units to really screw with him.

Fair points on the command squads. I do think Pask, if hidden out of line of sight and moving out in my first turn or after their first turn, can really dent an attacking force to the point of no return so I'm recalcitrant to take him out or drop the cadian doctrine.

I've worked out a few updates, and tried to squeeze more infantry in. The idea being to keep all vehicles out of LOS to deny LOS enemy tank weapons targets.I have enough out of LOS weapons to punish in a beta strike, with a plasma drop for opportunistic targets in turn 2.

So about all those units that are supposed to stay out of sight, it's rare that there's room on the board to hide a russ, 3 manticores, and 3 heavy weapon squads out of sight.

But suppose you could. And you manage to set it up so that Pask can pop out and shoot on turn 1. But his big gun is only range 24". His target options will be limited. If you must take him, give him longer range guns.

And you're wasting BS 2+ on heavy bolters? Give him plasma cannons, says I.

Here's a thought for you: Since you don't need scout sentinels turn 1 anymore with the FAQ, you can run some infantry squads forward on turn 1 to do that job. For 8 points each, you can upgrade your scout sentinels to armored sentinels with lascannons.

Big picture, I have a lot of similar things going over at my list. I guess every guard list going forward will have mortars, 60+ infantry, some company commanders, scion-style folks, and the main difference will be what toys we bring on top of that core. The good news is that this core I described is still only about 1000 points.
