So when I first heard the day of the youtube shooting, and found out it was a woman, I just had to joke that "Here we go, women are joining the mass shooter ranks!" #metoo, feminism, etc. Why shouldn't more women be part of this cultural trend? Of course, I am just being sarcastic. I guess finding some humor in the crappy things that go on in our society is one way I cope.

Anyway, when I found out she was of Persian-decent, I immediately mentioned it to my girlfriend, who is Iranian, and she already knew about her. I guess Nasim had shown up on Tosh.o (who I am a big fan of, but missed this episode). She was so embarrassed that Nasim was Persian and after seeing some of her videos, thought she was from a remote village in Iran lol (she said in her defense, Nasim grew up in Cali).

Anyways, after seeing some of her really odd video clips on the news, I went ahead and looked up a few of her videos. The result is like having the feeling of bewilderment, amusement, and the horror of watching a train wreck all at once. Its like, mesmerizing. My first thought was, how does a woman of her age have any time to do any of this? Well, she was like 38 or something and lived with her grandmother in a huge house she obviously didn't pay for, so I conclude her family was well off. The next thing was, how did she not have any common sense that these videos were really wacked out? I could expect some of this stuff from a teenager, but not a middle aged woman. And she was proud that she did all the work, that no doubt took some time to do. And the look in her eyes seemed to be one of a person who didn't really get out much, nor connect with many people. And many of her vids... well, lets just say that if I were making videos like that, I am pretty sure most of my friends would stop talking to me. I am not sure she was really getting constructive feedback on what she was doing. Her odd and blank facial features, the stare in her eyes, all of it kind of wishes you could go back in time and tell her she should stop while she was ahead.

And the crazy thing is, buried under all the weird dancing, music and outifts, was someone who I can actually relate to a little bit. I am a huge animal lover. I will stop traffic on a busy road to pick up a turtle who wondered out on it. I will rescue any animal I can. I enjoy the many different species who visit the bird feeder in my backyard, as well as the armadillos, possums, and raccoons that visit too. And all of my life I have been a big meat eater, which sounds hypocritcal I know. As a matter of fact, I have dislike vegetables and other healthy foods for most of my life. If there wasn't meat in it, it simply wasn't a meal. But that has actually changed a great deal in the last year and a half. I started investigating foods after watching some documentaries, and now are pretty much on the organic food train, and have actually cut the amount of meat I eat, including seafood, by a 1/3. I doubt I will ever be able to go full vegetarian, let alone vegan, but if I can some way cut back on the number of animals that have to be slaughtered for my behalf (as well as be healthier in the process), then I will happily substitute that protein for eggs or something. She was deeply affected about the treatment of animals, and that, isolated from everything else she was doing, is something to admire.

So all that being said, I certainly do not support Nasim for shooting up innocent people at youtube. The girl was definitely unhinged. And I have read a little that youtube's polices have actually pissed off a lot of people. But no reason to shoot anyone there, especially those who had no say in their policies. I would just suggest to stop using them. But in her case, it seems she probably didn't have much of a social group and youtube was her way, as odd as it was, to communicate with others about how she felt about the world, and the issues that bothered her. The star of her own show. I can understand all of that. Its definitely a sad story. While she was upset about the loss of revenue, I hardly think she needed the money. I think deep down it had more to do with silencing her, as they had labelled her videos in some way that prevented more viewings.

And oddly enough, she's gathered somewhat of a cult following. I think its the videos really. They are just so out there. If I had to pick a favorite female mass shooter, she's it. She's left behind such a strange legacy in her work. And I am not skipping over the fact she tried to murder some people, the whole thing is a weird tragedy.

If you haven't checked out some of the vids, I recommend doing so. You haven't seen anything like this.

Can you now tell us what your ultimate point is with this?

Because, well:

If I had to pick a favorite female mass shooter, she's it.

...you don't 'have' to pick one.

OP feels more like a 'personal blog entry' - and one that would probably NOT generate the kinds of comments he's looking/hoping for?

As mentioned above, Dakka Dakka is not the right venue for this kind of posting. Thanks!
