I could have sworn this was a somewhat frequent question and that the answer is usually no, but a search didn't show up anything newer than 2010. The suggestion back then was to PM either lego or yak with an explanation about why you want to change your name, and they would make that decision.

Outer Space, Apparently

The MODs will allow for a single name change, however normally there has to be a reason for the change (i.e. you've been harassed by another user/don't want to be recognised).

Best PM a MOD directly about it with your reasons, and they'll get back to you; if they allow it, all you'll need to do is provide the new name, and they'll do the rest.

We don't even require a reason but it is definitely a one time thing so make sure you really like your new username because you won't get to change it again.

One time thing? Man that's a lot of pressure. How about once every couple of years or something?

It's probbly taxing and harder going on servers to change all the people's posts, and data all over to the new, update searches and so...

Did n, t want to be doing that every other half hour.

I'd see mods maybe making a special case if your name ended a Terroist acronym or somthing on those lines. But that's super unlikely to 999.9% of Dakka.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

We really don't want people changing their usernames once every few years. Not only would that be a headache for the admin/mods to take care of, but it also creates confusion, because other users get used to knowing each other by their username, so when somebody's username changes, any memories/perceptions of that person tend to get lost as well.

So allowing that as a one-time change (if you really, really hate the original username you picked) is something we do because we don't want you stuck with something you hate and forced to start a new account because of that, but it at least minimizes that name change 'confusion' as its something that is pretty rarely done.
