Any thoughts on if it's better to pop a squad of melee plague marines into a Rhino or a squad of possessed? I'm looking for some melee units for my mono faction Death Guard army that I can throw forward quickly and try to take objectives or tie down gunlines.

If given an axe and plague knife the marines have two attacks hitting at S5 and cost 22 points. A possessed costs the same hut has 1d3 attacks, so the average is the same, but it'll be variable.

Defensively the possessed has a lower toughness, lacks disgustingly resilient but does have two wounds and 5+ invulnerable.

The possessed also have 2" more movement, so might be more likely to be able to get into combat.

If you want them purely for assault I'd say possessed are good. They can move faster and 5++. But the Plague Marines will be more versatile and be more useful in more circumstances with the range of melee weapons they can take. Some weapons are good against hordes, others against small units of heavy infantry, some against vehicles. Plus Disgusting Resilience works for mortal wounds and the toughness is a big boon. And if both make it into assault then while they have the same average attacks the Plague marines attacks are more reliable. So it will depend whats more prevalent in your gaming group. The Rhinos speed should help close the difference the 2" movement will give.

I'd say possessed if you're wanting melee goodness. 2 wounds plus a 5++ goes a long way. Plus their attacks are essentially power axes with S5 -2 AP for every attack.

I just love my Plague Marines with the plague flails. If you are attacking multiwound targets, you just need to attack with one guy at a time, first with axe+knife, them Plague Flail, then axe+knife, then Plague Flail, then Champion. And that way you don't waste nearly any damage with a bit of luck.

Ally in Thousand Sons (or Tz Daemons). Use Boon of Change for +1S, +1T, or +1A. If you have an Iron Warriors sorc (Can't use TS version) you could also make them 4++. 4++/6+++ with 2 wounds? Yea...that's good stuff.

Yeah, people neglect POssesed based in their old incarnation but right now they are the real deal.

Maybe they aren't as offensive as Khorne Berzerkers but they are much tougther. They trade offense and alphastrikey for defense. They are more versatile.

I actually like the Possessed box

I always used the winged packs as jumpack for my chaos lords/sorcerrers. But yeah the Gal Vorbak are beautifull, a shame the price.

Unless I'm facing a lot of multi-damage attacks isn't a 3+ followed by Disgustingly Resilient (is that written as a 5+++) better than a straight 3+/5++?

Possessed are getting a lot of support, I am tempted.

I don't play often enough to know what my local meta is, I'm often playing against Tyranids.

Yes. If you're not going to support Possessed the PM will be more durable.

Yes. If you're not going to support Possessed the PM will be more durable.

I'll be supporting them with something... Some combination of a Tallyman, Foul Blightspawn and/or a Malignant Plaguecaster might eventually join them. If I like how the Rhino works out then I might add a second to the army with a squad of shooty Plague Marines.
