Codex CSM states that chainswords give the user 1 additional attack however when i use Battlescribe to build my army list this is not noted in the weapon table.

Was there a rule change i missed or is this missing from the Battlescribe database?

All basic close combat weapons have the same rule.

The codex is right.

ok cool, so if an aspiring champion has a base stat Attack of 2, with a close combat weapon added he now has 3?

It is not a normal attack, it is an extra attack with that weapon, i.e. the chainsword.

Depends what you mean by 'close combat weapon'.

Chainswords, Combat Knives, and many other weapons in different factions do give one extra attack. Power Swords, Chain Axes, and many others do not however.

Not quite. The Close combat weapon entry on page 183 of the big rulebook only mentions range, type, strength, AP and damage. No special rule that grants the extra attack. This is the basic close combat weapon every model is assumed to be using, unless it is specifically armed with something else (like the chainsword that does grant the extra attack when the model uses that).

Now, if you meant that (just about) every faction has a specific close combat weapon that grants the 'extra attack upon use' rule, that would be more accurate.

1) Don't use Battlescribe as a rules source.

2) Chainswords bonus attack is made with the chainsword.

i wasnt using BS specifically as a source but since it can be updated or modified (unlike my hard copy codex) i was just making sure this rule wasnt modified
