Dakkanauts - Help please.

I'm trying to find some of the typical 40K symbols / iconography as templates suitable for spray-painting, but ... I'm failing.
All I'm finding are things like firing templates (or whatever they're called ... I don't game, just collect & paint, etc.).

I know decals are readily available, and to be honest, I'd "prefer" to use them (some of the Titan stuff is OMFGKrazyGood) , but I doubt they'd stand up to daily handling (unless there is some super-durable sealant I'm unaware of?).

Specifically ... I vape, and I build (and sell, but not here!!!) my own squonk mods, and I'd like to "adorn" my own ones (not for sale) with the colours of the empire (until I switch to Tau ...).

?

Silly question but if you don’t play, why would they be handled a lot?

After you apply your decal, spray it with some matte anti-gloss spray. A lot of spray providers make them, and it will seal your decals.

Not a silly question at all, I just didn't explain myself very well.

I don't need them for minis, I need (yeah .."need" ) them for my squonk mods, which are a form of E-cig.

@Vaklor4: Huh ... that weird sound you just heard? That was my brain farting. Yeah, maybe a gloss coat first, apply decal, another gloss coat and then a final mat coat? That could work, I think. It's not like I'm throwing these things around the place. Pretty much just "holding" them ... in-and-out of pockets, etc. Though they do get quite hot...

The paint has a higher heat tolerance than the plastic it is on. If youre going somewhere so hot it will melt plastic, just dont bribg your models period.

Obviously still not explaining myself well

No plastic involved. Metal or wood. The actual "thing" I want to paint gets quite hot.

If its wood, good freakin luck. If it is metal, youre gonna want to use an industrial paint or at least a thick epoxy paint for high heat tolerance...if its a miniture, just use the spray method I mentioned and normal paint, and hope for the best. If it gets RRALLY hot it could just flake normal paint off.

Cheers Vaklor ... Epoxy paint ... That's a new one for me. Will "research" (Google).

Still need some tips on the actual templates (or is "stencils" the word I'm looking for?) ... I'm thinking I might have to buy one of those Silhouette plasticard cutters (which I've wanted for a while tbh ...).

a good sharp tool and thin plastic is all you need. Any thin, modtly rigid platic can be used as a stencil material, and the thinner the better if you plan to cut it yourself for obvious reasons. However I cant link anything in particular, there ARE companies that will make you a stencil.

Death ray Designs makes some good generic Ad Mech, Chaos and SM stencils as well as ones for camo and things of that nature.

You can also buy thin plastic sheets made for making your own stencils at most hobby stores if none of the ones they have work.
