Hello,

Does concealed position lose meaning with the new rulings (April 2018)? Can the scout units be deployed only inside the owner deployment zone?

Thanks!!

PS: I've searched "concealed position" but couldn't find the straight answer, so please have patience if I've missed it.

The new clause of the Tactical Reserves rule you are referring to only affects units that arrive during the first turn. Scouts and similar infiltrators are deployed during deployment, and so are exempt from this. You can still deploy Scouts the same as you always have this edition.

Deployment is before the first turn, so the Tactical Reserves rule does not apply to them.

Deployment via "Concealed Position" is a special form of deployment. The TacRes rule does not govern units that are deployed (as in, not put into tacres).

So, no you can deploy them exactly how you would pre-FAQ.

They did however lose some of their usefulness as their function as DS screen diminished since the beta TacRes rule already does that for thrm.

They are still very useful for Maelstrom or missions which use tactical objectives however, since it can both block your opponents infiltrators and put them in good positions to hold objectives that would otherwise be hard to reach on your first or second turn. And they're cheap.

Of course, with the new Fly vs Vertical ruling it's not as good as it was either...

2+ save in cover with the cloaks can also be super handy. If you opponent is having to dedicate high AP weapons to scouts then that is generally a good thing for you!
