Hello Everyone,

First ever post here and I'm looking for a little help

My names Nahsti and I'm a Space Marine player I've played and painted 40k on and off for around 11 years now and by no means any I good, knowledged or even a worthy opponent but I sure do love to paint my stuff then put it away to never see a table, lose it or break it then wait 3 months and start painting a new army of some sort and I was wondering if you could give me a hand with a project?

I was creating an Army list during 7th edition for my blood angels, I was gently going up and up in points as I was working out what I was doing with it I got it to around 500 points with just the "Start Collecting" box, I then bought two boxes of Jump Assault and a Terminator box which I've barely touched so far and I had no added into my army as of yet!

I still haven't even finished the start box yet, 8th edition has dropped, new models have dropped, new rules have dropped and it's been around 6 years since I've had a solid grasp on the game anyway so I feel like I'm at square one. I don't have a GW store near me right now as I'm currently living 2 hours away from my home town and also have a mini version of me that throws cars at my head and drinks my milk every day so I can't do a 30 minute train trip to my closest GW store (no hobby store that sells GW) to have other adults throw dice at my head instead my two local hobby stores that sell GW content are lacking massively in that area, one store is more for "MAGIC" because umm.... I'm not sure they have more Yu-Gi-Oh stuff then warhammer stuff and the other is a model dominant store but I will leave that for some time it's relevant.

I'm asking for a little help with the new Primaris marines etc in creating my army I have NO IDEA what any of the new stuff does I'm not spending $110 AUD on a new dreadnought because it has cooler arms, I'm not looking to make a specific army, I just want something I can put on the table and won't have to pull it all off after turn 2, I really really really suck. hahaha

so far the units I have are:

Captain - Terminator Armour
x10 Tactical Marines - I had them written down as x2 5 man squads
x2 5 man Jump Assault
x5 Terminators
x1 Baal Tank
x1 Librarian - I know I know, Blood Angels blah blah, I got the Space Wolves extra pieces box to try and fit a cool wolf helm into his armour and paint it gold and his armour red, it worked oh so well!

and I'm stunned on where to go next I have no idea what steps to take next with all these new models with new names etc could I get a little help? I'm hoping to reach at least 2000 points or something eventually right now I feel like I might
need a little more fire power but I'm not sure what form to take it in, a predator or deva squad for some anti tank stuff or maybe a new bunch of models I honestly have no clue!

Thanks for reading my sad lack of intelligence

Well uh... something you won't have to pull off turn 2 is pretty ambiguous, but sure.

You could try getting a number of rhinos/razorbacks and go for an old traditional transport list involving tacticals with some special weapon and maybe a power weapon on the sarge riding up on the enemy. Add some backfield firing support like a couple dreadnoughts with ranged loadouts, predator tanks, or primaris hellblasters in a bunker, and a little bit of deep strikey-ness like some sanguinary guard and you could have a nice solid list for Sunday afternoon.

There's a bunker thing now? Or just in cover you mean? I'm completely clueless which way to go with all this new stuff I'm not sure what's dominant and what's being replaced

There are fortifications that are in index imperium 2. A few of them are buildings that you can shoot out of and are quite tough for their cost.

Anyway I made an example "Sunday afternoon fun" list that you could take some inspiration from.

Battalion
Mephy 145
"Captain hammer" (thunder hammer jump pack, take angel wing relic, warlord, +1 damage thunder hammer) 114
5man tac PG sword 82
5man tac PG sword 82
5man tac PG sword 82
5man tac PG sword 82
Razorback twin HB 87
Razorback twin HB 87
Razorback twin HB 87
Razorback twin HB 87

Vanguard
Jump pack priest w/sword (via index) 90
Dreadnought twin LC/ML 145
Dreadnought twin LC/ML 145
5man Sanguinary guard 2x fist, 3x sword, 5x angelus bolters 175
3man inceptors assault bolters 145

Spearhead
Captain power sword storm bolter 80
Whirlwind castellan 95
Whirlwind castellan 95
Whirlwind castellan 95

10 CP

Abbr: PG=plasma gun, LC=lascannon, ML=missile launcher, HB=heavy bolter

So yeah you could set up the 2 long range dreads and the 3 whirlwinds around the captain on foot for his rerolls, while having Mephiston and all the tacticals riding forward in the razors. Turn 2 you have a group of the sang guard, inceptors, captain hammer and jump priest land somewhere, mostly just shooting for that turn, but captain hammer may or may not want to use descent of angels (a stratagem) to blitz something immediately on that same charge phase, or just stay in the middle of the guys for a turn if nothing valuable is open.

Turn 3 and on just adapt to the chaos of battle and go from there.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this I really do appreciate it as I said I just wanted help with getting a list that had a good fulfilment as not being a regular player I could leave serious holes in my army and not know what's wrong now I have a solid idea what I want to look at and I can now just pick the brain of the GW workers every time I go in for these particular units thanks so much

I don't have a new 8th edition codex or 40k rules so I've had no idea where to take things

I also forgot to mention my friend bought a box of random pieces and there was a converted Blood Angels chapter master in there, I cant remember his name off the top of my head (Dante), I also have that dude who's armour looks like a skinned human with the axe (Astorath)

I know your struggle of having to be an adult and still wanting to enjoy your hobbies at the same time. I also get the cost aspect, GW is one of the more expensive ones.

Here is what I did (I live in the us so the specific websites wont help you) I collected up all my old figures that I havent touched in years, found an online store that buys and sells used war gaming minis and traded them in for store credit. Now I had the means to get what I want. If you can't find a similar store then ebay should do fine. I personally don't like ebay and I tend to avoid it.

Now to get you started: you can download the core rules for free from GW, its called the battle primer. You can use battle scribe a crutch until you get a codex for the blood angels.

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Battle-Primer-2017-ENG

To build your list remember this simple recipe: 20% dedicated to grabbing objectives, 40% dedicated anti tank, 40% dedicated anti infantry.

Blood angels are all about getting in your face and getting into melee. Search for some other blood angels list in this forum and look the comments. I love my librarian dreadnought, he is a beast and a titan killer. He can cause a maximum of 40 wounds per fight phase.

I hope my ramblings help you a bit. I struggled getting back into it after 10 years as well.

I value any input or even just common chatter it's nice being able to talk to my people haha I prefer to not befriend people who's first thought is Arnold Schwarzenegger when I say Terminator so it's a pleasure to be on here.

as of right now the only models I have is the start collecting box and the extra parts I mentioned so I have nothing to sell or trade right now, I've constantly kept my armies sold, given away or put into dioramas which eventually
someone knocks over haha

Thanks so much for taking the time it really helps having a clear view of where to aim right now
