If it's on its own and has nothing inside it does it count as one unit?

Yes? Why would it not.

Why would it not count as a unit. I am confused. Is there a reason you would think it cannot?

I was told this at the Warhammer club I was playing. I'm a newbie.

They must be thinking about, and misapplying, this rule from Chapter Approved:

"Boots on the Ground
When determining which player controls an objective marker, exclude all units that have the Flyer Battlefield Role – these units can never control objective markers."

Yes, perhaps DeathReaper is right.

However a Wave Serpent isn't a Flyer, it's a Designated Transport - so you are fine

Fair enough. They are wrong. As stated they might be thinking of the Flyer battlefield role. That's not the same as the FLY keyword.

Thanks very much chaps. I had another dispute over the wave serpant with Serpant Shields.

If you roll a 1 and it fails. Can you try again later in the game? Or is that it used up?

It's used up. Once you use it, The Wave Serpent then gains no benefit from this ability for the remainder of the battle." The rule doesn't care if you inflicted mortal wounds or not.

You're better off saving it for when you think the Serpent is going to die anyway next turn or if there is nothing that can cause more than 1 damage able to shoot it.

Ok thanks. Aren't jet bikes flyers (fly key word)? I'm sure they can hold points.

Having th3 fly keyword isn't important

It needs to have the flyer *battlefield role* vex things like troops, elite etc.

The FLY keyword and the Flyer Battlefielf role are not the same thing. Flyers have FLY; not all things with FLY are Flyers.

The Flyer Battlefield Role is not the same as the FLY keyword.

All Flyers (so far and AFAIK, not a requirement though) can FLY, but not everything with FLY is a Flyer. Jetbikes (eldar ones anyway) are Fast Attack Battlefield Role iirc.

This is not the first time I've seen this confusing newbies. They should have named the Flyer battlefield role 'Air Support' or something like that to avoid confusion.

Agreed. It’s one time where simple and colloquial can cause an issue. It is spelt out but I can see the confusion.
