Howdey,

Just finished off (hopefully) the first five operatives of my Alpha Legion, umm... legion...

And close-ups of individual members

(as much as I like the Champion, I love the brutality of Mk3)

Not really sure what direction I'm going with these guys, as they're pretty much going to be my 'Every Marines', giving me an excuse to model, paint and possibly play whatever I feel like at the time.
They started off as a kitbash thanks to my general dislike of almost every 'Fantasy' setting giving the 'Bad/Daemonic' factions overly baroque armour. (Skyrim Daedric anyone?)
I was hoping for something more befitting of the traitorous sensible marines, thinking along the lines of practical brutality while still retaining a sense of resourcefulness.

Comments on improvement encouraged and welcomed.

Great dynamic posing and a really nice, gritty, understated paint job, Traitorous yet sensible indeed!

Solid work, I like the weathering as well. The axe looks somewhat flat for my eye for some reason.

If you mean the Champion's more esoteric styled power weapon then it's probably because it is.
I could try and surreptitiously blame the quality of the photos, but aside from some edge highlighting and an ink-wash, it's pretty basic.
I tried streaking the blade with a lighter orange/yellow from the edge backwards with a fine brush to represent the cutting edge, but the lines ended up too fat and looked as if he'd been carving heretical pumpkins. I may go back and try again once/if I get a little more brush control.

Cheers

Why's is so dark here?

Looks like the previous distraction of Nighthaunts and sexy Ghouls has given some minor necromantic properties, as well as a series of new scars decorating my poor thumb...

Anyway, finally got round to finishing off a second 5-man cell of insurgents for the Legion. Going along the lines of stabby bolters and a little nostalgia from an unhealthy 6-months pretending to be Jack the Ripper on CoD.

...and some rudimentary close-ups

I still have no clue where I'm going with any of the basic and somewhat unsteady markings on their armour, but due to popular demand by the fluffy Manti-kitty perched upon my shoulder; and a little confidence provided by a bottle of Microset/sol, I'll be buying at least one sheet of transfers when I put in my order for Alpharius. Once I figure out what else I may want from Forgeworld. Those Raven Guard snipers look tempting...

Cheers

Greetings, These Alpha Legionnaires look really great!

I was wondering what color of blue/green You used for the models. I really like Your Pre-Heresy color scheme and would like to do a couple of ten man bolter squads.

All My Chaos Alpha Legionnaires look like Crimson Fists Space Marines.

Heya bud,

The base for the armour is Army Painter - Hydra Turquoise washed with Army Painter - Dark Tone
though you can achieve a similar effect with Citadel - Temple Guard Blue and Nuln Oil.

I also pin wash the recesses with AK Interactive - Rust Streaks, as it's more forgiving than ink for a clumsy painter such as myself.

Hope this helps.

Thank You for the color selection options.

I'll probably got with Army Painter because it looks like it is cheaper price wise.
