Can we talk about how fantastic those set of models looked. I would give an arm and a leg to get a full line of models in that aesthetic.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

The chosen, certainly.

The cultists? God no.

I would prefer Multi-Pose, but the chosen from that set nail the general chaos vibe better than any other chaos space marine's I've seen. I love how they look fused to their armor and it's about half organic at this point. It reminds me of how it's portrayed in old art and stories.

I really like the cultists. Lately the move has been towards MEGA HUGE ULTIMATE models and it was nice to have a whole hoard of guys who not only suck, but look pathetic too.

Of course I also liked the barefoot Empire dudes so what do I know.

I feel the same way! I love those cultist models. I have absolutely loads of them!

By barefoot dudes, do you mean the flagellants? I love those models too. I combine them with DV cultists to make some really cool models.

What's wrong with pushfit? A lot of GW models have been monopose these last few years. And if I need to glue them or if I can just push them together doesn't really make a difference.

I liked the 2nd ed metal cultists more, but the Dark Vengeance Cultists are at least a a good source of more civilian 40k humans, which is a good thing.

Obviously you like Flagellants. Everyone should. There's nothing you can't make out of them.

I can only speak for myself here, but I don't like having the same model in my squad five times. Multi-part kits allow for more variety, if done properly (something that GW is moving away from lately).

Flagellents but also the last version of spearmen and handgunners had some models in barefeet and ragged uniforms, a contrast to the older foo-foo Empire. Some people hated them for the low fantasy look but I love it.

I'm looking at these now and think I'll pick some up to aid my cultist building. Thanks for the tip!

The Chosen are awesome. If only GW could release a multi-pose set with that sort of aesthetic that could be built as, say, Chosen or Havocs...

This I agree with 1000%. Over the last few years I've been drifting a bit from my Dark Angels, which I do love, to liking Chaos more for have more unique look per model. It helps keep out of burnout compared to painting 40 standard marines. My issue has always been though that the older style, normal marine with horns, look doesn't really fit the lore. Most of the codex entries mention how the craziness of the warp seems to attune chaos marines to their role. I want to see havocs with heavy weapons grotesquely growing into them or Bikers that look like they're merging into their bikes. I'm not saying that the old models don't work well for more aethiest factions in chaos, like Alpha Legion, but I want to be able to field a force of Undivided that look like they've really fallen into the depravity and they've been blessed uniquely per marine. (I've honestly thought about using parts of the possessed box to kitbash into standard chaos marines.)

I bought it just for the models. The chaos ones really did it for me. The plastic Chaos champion and the new Kharn the Betrayer also have the same style. Yet sadly the standard Chaos marines are still pretty much the same set as a couple of years ago. Given the fact that Tzeench and Nurgle are already provided with thier own style of marines I am pretty sure an update is planed for the future. Of course we still have Khorne and Slaanesh to go before we probably reach undivided.

A hemophobic Khorne berzerker, a germophobic plague marine and a sexy Skaven walk in to a Games workshop.....

I bought a few sets of the chosen. Yes, monopose is aweful, and their bizarre choice of parts was annoying, but my solution was to put them together THEN cut them into pieces for conversions. worked really well and they look great. Really got across the character of marines who had been fighting for 10,000 years and picked up their own quirks and paraphernalia

They're about 15 years old I believe. The Khorne Berserkers are about 20...

Have any pictures of them? I could use the inspiration.

For your effort, here's my cultist leader I finished up the other day.

He is based now.

Also the heavy weapon guy, which might be the best model of the whole group.

I love the cultist models... I went and bashed a bunch of them with some Catachans, Marauders, some Cadian weapons thrown in here and there I think, and some Chaos Warrior arm bits for flavour. They form the conscript block for my "Irregular" Renegade platoon of my Guard army. Here's a group shot..

EDIT - I also added some Anvil Trencher Irregular heads for more variety.

I got all up and going to start kitbashing some of the chosen models. Here's the first I got all fixed up. Base is still drying to move the real 32mm it's going to go in.

I finished up the bone armored chosen from the box. Bases are going to be made once I finish off the other 3. I'm going to put a hold on updating this thread too much after this. I don't want to just have me spamming it. If I do it again, it will prob be when I finished all the chosen off and get some group shots of all the chaos in the box for the most part. Unless someone asks for more as I go.

*EDIT* I was caught off guard how much better the white background came out, so I took a better photo of the first model. Hopefully it gives it a better view.

I just finished getting the base magnetizing done on the chosen champion. It still needs just a little green stuff to even out the joints, but I think it's looking good. Dog got to the previous one :( so I had buy another with an awful nothing but black and gold job. I just finished magnetizing the arms (Ran out of magnets to put the helmet arm back on, back to the FLGS. Flipping the wrist on the chain sword to have him properly holding it downward was a huge pain in the butt.

Dark Vengeance was a great set for both Chaos and Dark Angels players. The Chaos stuff was especially good. The Chosen have kind of a wacky weapons arrangement but they make great squad leaders or Chaos Lords, and I think the actual Chaos Lord from the set is really cool too even if his loadout is not competitive. I just wish you could get the Cultist champions and heavy weapons outside of the set, as they are getting very hard to find these days unless you want to spend an arm and a leg.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

40-50 on ebay these days... ugh, I remember when they went for 10-20 for all 20x before the new box set came out. I'm glad I at least bought one extra set of 20 because I figured this would happen when Dark Imperium dropped, I just wish I had bought an extra as I've lost 2-3 models to kitbashing so I'm short of 2 20-25 squads like I want.
