I currently have four ten-man squads of the original metal Stormtroopers and would like to field them as 'Troops' choices according to the new 8th Edition 40k Rules:

However, would I be required to take a Tempestor Prime or could I just run a Company Commander as HQ ?

Thanks to all for your time and help!

You only need a prime for each scion command squad.

Thank you sir! Having read some tactics on 1d4chan, I am considering running a Tempestor Prime with Scion Command Squad as they have an order to twin-link or is that not possible in 8th Ed?

Buy the Astra Militarum 8th Edition codex. Not the 7th Edition Militarum Tempestus codex. Militarum Tempestus is in the Guard codex now.

Scions are just stormtrooper equivalents now.
There is no "twin linked" weaponry in 8th. Anything that had been twin linked just fires double the basic shots. So a twin linked lascannons is now a twin lascannons which is just two lascannons.

Got my hands on the 8th Ed Astra Militarum Codex now ... I see that the Additional Order for Militarum Tempestus is "Elimination Protocol Santioned" to target Vehicles and Monsters

Btw you don't need them to be able to field legally but then you won't be able to use scion regiment detachment with it's bonus rule so you might want to take them anyway. Extra plasma shots with 6's to hit is handy enough.

Thank you friend!!

I am severely dissappointed that the Regimental Advisors now cost Elites slots ...

Why though? You have a ton of elite slots if you use a brigade or battalion.

If you want to win, Yes.

You can't give orders to Tempestus anything without a Tempestus HQ. The only HQ TS can field is the prime. So, in effect, you have ultra powerful infantry, but you don't want to give it orders? Also, it's statistically better than all the non-unique HQ's in the AM. It's better than a CC by a long shot, and beats a PL by a mile.

Load up as many Primes as you can, and give them Command Rods and Power Fists. Commence with the Slaughter.

I have Rogue Trader / first generation "Beret" Storm Troopers and trying to incorporate them in an 8th Ed Army; unfortunately going to have to run the Heavy Weapons Team as CCS because Scions do not use HWTs.

Please also be aware, there are strict rules regarding how you can and can't use Scions. If you don't field an ALL Scion army, you can't give them a Regimental bonus. This includes taking them as a detachment. So unless you plan on playing 100% Scions, you can kiss any regimental bonus for them goodbye.

Kinda boggles the mind as to why they packaged a Lord Commisar in the box with them, considering the rules, but oh well.

Because at the time the box was designed, Commissars were part of the Tempestus Codex.

I don't think that's quite right... You can take a Scions detachment and say a Cadian detachment in the same army no problem.

What you can't do is mix Scions and Other regiments in the same detachment if you want to keep regiment bonuses.

All units in the Detachment must be Temepestus to gain the Storm Troopers doctrine (page 132). There is indeed nothing about the whole Army needing to be Tempestus.

You can, however, put Scions in a Cadian detachment and still have the Cadians get the Cadian doctrine. Adding Militarum Tempestus units to an Astra Militarum Detachment does not prevent the AM units receiving a Doctrine (also page 132).

Its some pretty convoluted rules writing! I'm not sold either way on the Commissar issue. The AM Codex will likely need a refresh.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

I still don't see why a Commissar would "break" a MT detachment.

Because MT have a different rule to other regiments about when they can get a doctrine.

It's almost like different things have different rules!

It's almost like I didnt just say "you're wrong" but asked why it would be that way. . But thanks for the link, that answered it.
