That's some really good situational awareness on her part. She retrieves her gun and loads it almost instantly and I'm pretty sure the gunman had no clue until the first bullet hit him - though he did manage to squeeze off a round before his gun jammed, but luckily no one was hit.

Saw footage of this elsewhere. I was really impressed with how the mother calmly gets the perp's gun out of his reach before picking it up.
Very coolheaded thinking on her part.
@ jhe90: Not to mention pissing off a Brazilian woman is just generally a bad idea, never mind endangering her kid. I should know, I'm married to one. Never a dull moment.
